Prime meat spoil times

EDIT: Thank you comunity for all the great advice. You kept it clean and kind for the most part and came up with fantastic ideas on how to maximize our efforts in getting Raw Prime Meats. Keep the conversation alive! Do you have a way to get the Raw Prime Meat (RPM) back to base intact/cooked without spoiling? A lot of Survivors think that RPMs should stack. Do you think the spoil timer should be lengthend?

It is hard enough to hunt down and find an Alpha beast. Of course this is when you want to find one. When you don't want to find one they appear at the most unfortunate times don't they?

But I digress, 2 minutes 20 seconds is not a very long time. So when the aformentioned Alpha is very far from the home base one must have a plan in place to preserve the Raw Prime Meat before it spoils.

After killing the prime throw down at least 10 camp fires. This is made easier if you have, say 5 hunters each with two camp fires in their inventory. Do not take the Raw Prime Meat off the corpse unless it is in jeaoprady via insects, another predator or the decompose timer is running out. Basically you and your teamates have 2 minutes to get set up.

Each hunter should also carry 100 sparkpowders. Throw these in the camp fire inventory and light the fires. Then Start getting that Raw Prime Meat off the corpse and into your inventories.

It is imparative that you divide them up evenly so that the next step goes smoothly and one hunter isn't stuck with 17 spoiled meats because she/he could not get them out of inventory and into the cook fire fast enough.

As stated above each hunter must then throw his alotment of Raw Prime Meats (RPM) into the fires. At this point if you have not made enough camp fires in advance to cook all the RPMs then the extras will most likely spoil before a slot in a camp fire opens up.

For a Tribe that has fewer than 5 members this process can be an excersize in frustration. They simply will not have the needed time to scury back and forth getting everything ready and again, the most likely outcome will be the spoiling of all that precious RPM.


If you have another plan to save the RPM from spoiling when the Alpha kill is far from the base, please let us know here. Keep in mind that all servers have different rules, for example the time it takes to tame animals. On servers where this is very long they will likely not have a flying animal for each tribe member.

So with this in mind try to come up with ideas that follow K.I.S.S. (Keep It Super Simple) That's not how the acronym really goes but it will work here ;)


Also use this thread to tell the Developers if you think RPM needs more time on it's spoil clock.

I believe 5 minutes is a good spoil timer. It adds a sense of urgency while not being impossible.

Also keep in mind with so few Alphas on the map at any given time, making enough kibble becomes a time suck which causes anybody with a job or busy life away from the game to get frustrated.

I'd bee happy with 3-4 minutes. As long as I could make the trek back to base and cook the meat on the grill before it spoils. If I'm alpha hunting for Prime, it's never extremely far from base. Otherwise I'm trying to obtain higher quality loot.

it does seem a bit too short, but for the time poor kibble is the go. This means cook the prime with a fire carried on your hunting mount, then once cooked keep hunting, once you have a few head back to base and put in preserving bin with oil and log out.
Have a farm indoors, make kibble on your next login.
Go hunting, find a suitable low-mid level tame or not. Either kill more things to make more prime jerky or tame something you were looking for.
Knock it out, keep tranqing, keep hunting, if its not dead throw the kibble in and tame.

The taming calculator is your friend.

if you put RPM in a dinos inv the spoil timer goes to 9 min enough time to reach a grill , a preserving bin or a fridge

The spoil times are fine just farm a bit and stuff it all in your mounts inventory to take back

I always take 2-4 campfires with me when hunting for prime meat. Why? You can even farm them in under 1 minute even near the spot you killed an alpha or 5 brontos or whatever and you can get your cooked prime meat directly. Put it into the dino and it lasts for 2,5 hours.

The best way I have found is use a flying mount farm the prime throw it all in its inventory take back to base and click drop all into your grill..easy :P

The thread is about being far from your base. 9 minutes probably is not enough time considering terrain and attacks on the way back. I am trying to give ideas to lower level characters too who will not have flying mounts. I killed an Alpha Raptor 500 meters (or so ) from my base. I was alone at the time. By the time I got all the meat (inside my Croc's inventory) back to my base and got my only two camp fires going 17 RPMs spoiled and I only got 4 cooked.

Is there a way to tweak the timer in the ini file or something?

thats it... considering terrain, you are on foot, low levels do have access to pteranodons.... fly free my friend!!!

also you dont have to farm all the dead body at once, you can make 2 pick hacks and cook, then another 2 hacks and cook, rinse and repeat untill you have cooked all body, no need to farm every piece of meat at once since dead bodies last more time than RPM

Actually, I have found the perfect way to do it. My bronto has a platform saddle with a small metal hut built on top and I have a grill and a fridge and a generator to power the fridge.

I use it as a hunting platform with my buddy doing all of the killing. He kills and gathers the prime with his dino and then we transfer it in batches to the grill, leaving anything that can't fit in his dino.

We killed an alpha the other day and only had 8 prime spoil on us. out of about 150 that we actually managed to cook.

I originally made the platform for mobile mining and refining, I placed the grill and fridge just because they didnt weigh too much and I wanted to be able to cook any meat I might get from defending myself. But have found the bronto works much better as a mobile hunting and grilling platform than a mining one, mostly due to the amount of time spent walking to the mountain.

Stick a grill, generator, and fridge on a platform bronto along with 4-5 turrets and you can cook all the meat you can possibly gather lol. You could even have multiple grills if you wanted.

I don't know about ya'll. But I use the alphas and prime meat to make tranq arrows.
Kill a few alphas, wait for the meat to spoil, and bam, 300+ tranq arrows in no time. :L
If I need to cook prime, I just haunt after things that drop it in the area of my base.

i just kill paracers with rex.
prime will go into his inventory with more time.
then i use 1-2 campfires to cook the meat ^^ (campfires are everywhere)

I agree I think the Timer is to low. Unless you have camp fires set close bye. 3 Minutes would be fine for me that way it wont spoil as It's cooking.

OR

Remove the timer once it start cooking. Problem Fixed :D

I would say that it would be nice if raw prime stacked, even if stack limit was just 5-10 pieces. It would help with cooking and inventory clutter
