Not that I've seen on our server.
Just about all of us have a variety of pets, we use what we need for what we are doing. I've already trekked most of the island on foot, on carno, on rex, and on spino. My general goto, now, is my argent...because much of the time I'm not exploring.
I'm flying up to get metal and other materials, I'm delivering things I make to folks and, pick up things folks make for me, I'm heading out to assist in rescues when folks get stuck, critters get stuck, or to provide overwatch/resupply for someone with a tame down far from their base, or to recover pets/gear because I can get to the bodies faster than they can.
And, when I feel like it, I jump on a rex, or whatever, and go for a walkabout. I do that even though I've already wandered the island countless times...am really looking forward to linked maps or, a larger world.
BUT it takes away more then it gives. it kills the landsake, provides so many shortcuts ... ... and in this case also dominates the pvp and pve with argents.
Battlebirds dont care about beeing shot by longneck rifles because of their HP pool.
its borken in so may ways atm, but ballancing is still a thing to come. most likely next year.
still there is the point that flying takes away nearly any ground advantage. any walls any terrain. any traveling any hills or mountauns for scouting. it makes it all obsolete. believe it or not. 99% of all games are better without the ability to fly. and ark is not in that 1%.
edit: primitive and not from blueprints, i know that can make a diffrence
Yes. Once you get your first bird, the map becomes pretty small.
Lets not forget the render problem that makes it impossible for pedestrians and riders to hide. Thats my biggest concern, bcs it is a technical advantage to flyers. Flying you can see everyhing, bcs you are outside the loading distance, the pedestrian cant see anytthing bcs all the plants are rendered. That sucks. Different vision, based on the loading distance of trees and foliage, is just not acceptable in pvp.
Ive played on servers with lvl30 max wild dinos, lvl90 max lvl and on servers which gives dinos 100 lvls for leveling.
On either of these servers was there ever a problem creating a flying dino, which could fly from one part of the map to the opposite without rest and do it pretty darn fast.
A ptera with 200+ speed makes everything else pretty slow.
I didnt say "kill the game" I said "killing the exploration part of the game". I played wow too and flying mounts DID kill the exploration part of wow.
