Metal in caves, no stone

I have seen Oil and Silica Pearl nodes but I don't recall seeing Metal or Rock nodes. However you do get some rock form Oil nodes. Why would you want to look in the Ocean for Metal /Rock nodes in the first place?

no. but some stones in the river are metal nodes, and others have a higher than normal chance to drop metal. still, nothing compared to the mountain nodes.

Hi, because i have underwater base...and I totally got tired of Raft-metal trips xD

Even if there were metal underwater it would not be worth getting just like the crystal underwater is not worth getting. To heavy and an ankyo is the best for harvesting both.

Technically there is stone underwater with the crystal and oil nodes.

short answer, no there arent any metal nodes under the water at all. you can get rocks from oil and crystal (crystal in caves, but anyway)

i would think it likely that they will do a pass over the ocean when they start bringing out more water dinos though, i know i remember reading that they plan on making rocks underwater harvestable, namely for when the Dunkleosteus ( http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/ark.gamepedia.com/0/0e/Dunkleosteus_Dossier.png ) comes out, but you could be waiting a while

It may have changed with swamps, but prior to that update I based in a lake around 45/73 (About halfway between the North Eastern mountain and the Eastern ARK. There were three metal deposits underwater in that lake - coupled with an underwater entrance to my base I could SCUBA out on metal runs without anyone even knowing I'd left the house, it was a nice setup. Not as dense as some mountain bases, but I just filled my forge everytime I came or went from home.

Nowadays there are many ore deposits on the ice shelf around the snow biome, that's sorta ocean-like. I've been floating around the North West area on a raft base since the biomes update, no shortage of metal within easy reach.

IIRC we found a metal node once underwater, it was just one rock though and I can't remember exactly were we found it.

There are in fact a few metal nodes underwater, but they are rare. Check the shallows around the island in the very bottom right of the map. They are close enough that you could swim to them from shore.
