Also happened to me. seems a lil randomly. It occured to me when i parked it in base, just flew off into the swamp and chilled there. other time I was gonna use a ballista to attack an alpha, then it decided it wanted to land.

Happening to us as well. It will fly very far away if you don't catch it in time. I really don't expect ours to be alive in the morning.

they stll not fixed this damn bug, it is not force taming it that cause that so stop saying that, also it's not that if you use only normal saddle this will hapend and the platform one will stop it.
i tamed mine with tranq darts put a platform saddle on it, and guess what? it wanders off like 10 sec after i land it and turn my back on it.and that's after proper landing not the E dismount thing.
starting to hate the dev team more and more every time i have to search for the damn thing. its getting frustrating.

"Arise, Dead Thread, and walk amongst the living once more!" Seriously though in 1200+ hours I've never had this happen to me, nor have I seen anyone in the forum make a thread about this.

Anyway, not to be insulting but check the basics and make sure the Quetz is a) on Passive and b) not set to Follow you or another dino. You'd be amazed how many people forget about that.

When a Quetz is flying without a rider. He is gonna land. like the ptera or argi. and sometimes its far away, where their land. If they are high enough in the sky. they dont land

I can confirm this definitely happens. Dead thread or not its obviously not addressed. Here are my confirmed facts and variables, for all those that only give half responses that only provide minimal information.

-Wild-caught and timed Quetzal, using platform saddle
-Wandering is disabled
-Follow is disabled
-Resource/Victim harvesting disabled
-Aggression set to passive
-Stay put command specifically issued to quetzal
-Vanilla ARK, no mods
-Unofficial dedicated server

Scenario:
-park quetzal (with platform saddle) 100-200ft above sea-level
-using second bird, fly down to ground, harvest mats
-a few moments later when ready to drop off mats and return to quetzal, quetzal is flying away from the player.
-no dinosaurs or bugs were attacking it.
-all the above items were in place.
-aftering happened and catching the bird, I reset and tried again, double checking all of its follow, etc.. settings. 5 minutes later, happens again.

I have found that if you are high enough as Introser said, it doesn't fly away. However that's around 1000ft ish, which is ok if you're harvesting around a mountain but is annoying for an intended always-flying mobile base that flys away from the player when not riding. I'm not really looking for feedback, I just wanted to point out that just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. Agreed its odd that others havent made complaints regarding it but that then just makes me beg the question, what is it that I'm/we're doing different to cause it to happen.

This is an old thread from when quetzals first came out and your quetzals, if left flying without a rider, would literally fly across the map without you. What you're experiencing is similar, but not the same and is intended behavior. You just need to land your quetzal before moving away from it and problem solved. If they hover over land they eventually get sick of hovering and will land themselves. The reason in your case that it's flying far away is because it's over water and can't find a suitable place to land.
Svullom 28 ENE 2019 a las 8:59 a. m.
I got the issue now as well. As soon as I dismount my Quetz it just flies away towards the center of the map (at least it seems like that). It doesn't matter if I dismount while it's hovering or if it has landed. Wandering is off, follow is off, tried to let it follow me but that didn't work.

It's very annoying since it's lvl 300+ and has a nice house on its back. If anyone has a solution that would be great.
