Fabricated Sniper Rifle field test

So a level 8 Carno turns up at my base this afternoon and presents me with an opportunity to field test the new sniper rifle. After finding a good vantage point safe from his attacks, I start sniping away the creature. The dino is stuck on some rocks and I'm getting some good head shots on him. But he's not going down. Then 63 rounds later, the gun breaks! In the end I finish him off with my pike. 63 rounds? He was more likely to die of lead poisoning then bullet damage.

If you bought a gun in real life and it broke after 10 clips you would return it to the shop and get your money back! So another firearm that will gather dust on the shelf in my base. Ho hum.

that's because dinos usually have more health than most players and I'm not sure about armor but they really need to start balancing PvE & SP or it will pile up on them so much they will never get it right....

ya i hope once they get everything in the game they want in they do balance the game, which will be very hard imo with rexs with 50k hp and 1k attack vs human's with guns. even the RPG just tickels dinos sadly

You were half-right. The two are interchangeable, and it's only a slight difference in mechanics.

I love it how you can stand around for hours with your thumb up your bum clicking one button and end up with an overpowered death machine that can destroy every dino in sight and then.... on the other hand farm all sorts of material for hours on end for a useless piece of crop

Okay if you think you should be able to kill every Dino in the game with a gun,please go to SP and spawn in a ancendent version. Guns are meant for pvp.. I see people running around with a shotgun and long neck while not raiding and instantly want to shoot them.

A tribe mate of mine said the assault rifle sucks because he shot a turtle with it 80 times but only 8 times with a long neck, I said so your the idiot that's burning through ammo... use a pike or better yet kill it in one hit with a dino.

Sorry guns,there's no a get this and beat the game. People you do have to have more then a gun to win this game. Trust the guy who has a full large box with each gun and the rest is ammo just for his personal raid box.

My point was you can literally do next to nothing for hours and end up with something that can destroy everything, but the things that take alot of farming and general all round effort destroy nothing.

Generally speaking, if you had a firearm brake anything other than a replaceable spring or additional accessory, you would not be able to return it to the store... until you got out of the hospital. Assuming you lived through the 'ka-boom'.

Assuming they adjust damage and/or durabilty later in the game, perhaps someone can suggest to them to have improved forges or additional assembly steps that include heat treating of essential parts to let them last longer. Until then, I would assume that the pot metal we are using to assemble these guns is suspect. :)

An excellent point was made earlier regarding not seeing rocks in the way while looking with a scope. I had to make lanes that were stone and vegetation free in order to longneck alpha dinos into all of the traps I had laid out. Now I don't go through ammo nearly as much.

Killed a Level 4 Parasaur with the new sniper rifle. Took 4 headshots before it went down with it's 200ish HP. Completely useless in PvE at all. Like most of the weapons. All you need in PvE is Pike and Crossbow. You get more arrows than you can ever use.


Did some test with the tranq darts as well. Only work in longneck rifle? wtf? Gave ~100 torpor per dart before buff. Now it's 200. But for the price of one dart i can craft 3 narcotic arrows. Why should i bother using them?

All guns are not worth the engram points and costs crafting them in PvE. So when i will do the mindwipe soup, i will unlearn them. Just garbage. When i cannot onehit a lowlevel dino by a headshot it's not worth it at all. I don't need them for flyers in PvE as there are easier ways to kill them. With all the server lags and asynchronities it's not even worth shooting at birds.

Devs are scared of making items too OP. Instead they make them ridiculous weak.

There is no way to fight a tamed pet without another tamed pet of same level/strength.

Very true, but for "storm the house" i would exchange the assault rifle vs pike+400% melee damage

I actually still use the simple pistol the most, no sway with scope (granted it takes 3 head shots to kill someone in flak but non-flak its still a one shot kill on players. It will also kill most birds easily from ranged.
