But kapros have VERY low carry weight, so even a well bred kapro will struggle to carry a player and all their armor, weapons, and gear. I got tired of having to dump half my gear into some other dino just to be able to move on one.
I would still stick to using an argentavis with the beak carry. Try putting down a platform, like a thatch foundation with a ramp. Waddle the argie up to the edge, and see if standing on the platform helps to elevate your character closer to the beak.
Argy is not allowed on all maps is a problem.
If the Otter survives due to its low health pool than it will become hostile and attack you and the rope has only a certain length which makes killing fish from further away more difficult.
Also, it has not the same advantage of being carried in a beak or mouth, because the Otter can still roam and kill the fish you wanted to feed it.
the grappling hook doesn't apply any damage. not even 1, nor aggro. it's the opposite, hook will break if hooked target receive damage/goes into running away. also carrying around the otter behind you (basically force moving it around due to you having more weight) doesn't aggro it either. all of what you say is wrong. unless you use a modded hook/crossbow.
all proof is on the wiki: https://ark.wiki.gg/wiki/Grappling_Hook
hooks have been used to drag around those kind of boring tames since they were introduced in game. you can change weapon, roll in/out the cable, even fly a dino with one hooked dino hanging under/behind you. you just never learn to use them properly/thought about it.
on the opposite side, your megalosaurus advice is far from optimal, since grabbing will deal at least 1 damage and so put the dino into battle. which prevent it to be fed until battle ends, usually resulting in you needing to ungrab it for it to happen.
