Punch in the level of spino you are going after and look at the Knock Out info. Plug in your weapon damage % to get an accurate number.
Keep in mind that there is instant torpor and then there is torpor over time. If you hit it a bunch of times it may take time for it to get fully sleepy.
after the valentine day event was updated, the game server was offline without notification, and i lost all tribes, characters and dragons.

If you're using a longneck, created with a recipe (not the standard-engram), then you will do more damage and more topor. (it should at least be green, however. blue or even yellow would be even better.) Topor is crreated over time, With a longneck, you are pretty slow at shooting, because you have a pretty long reload-animation. In that time, the topor is already working. You can slow down, if you are using a crossbow. There is no need to shoot as soon as you are able to. Count at least to 5 every shot. (afaik, the topor of shots is working through 5 seconds, but it also might be 10, I'm not realy sure.) This will spare you amunition, especially the relativ expensiv darts.
If you are playing on an official server, and trying it knock out a high-level one, there is the posibility of needing over a hundred darts with the normal (engram-created) longneck.
You can also build a taming-pen. Create a stone-bulding with at least 3x6 foundations and at least 3 walls high. Make some windows instead of solid walls. Create a ramp at one side the broad one) and get the spino aggro you. Then flee into the pen and through the door, (there even doesn't need to be a door in there. The door-gap is enough.) Now the spino is captured in your trap, and you can knock it out without hesitation and without worrying, that other creatures wound it in any way.
Try to kill a Dino, that will get you prime meat, if you don't have kibble yet. Of course, kibble is the best food. While you're taming a creature, the qualitiy of food matters, especially on official servers. Kibble is the best, but for carnivors, prime meat is second best. The big disadvantage about prime meat is, however, that is rots extremly fast, and you can't stack it on official servers. (you need a mod for that!)
So kill crocs, or stegos, These will give you prime meat. Also get some normal meat into the inventory of your taming target, because if you don't feed it constantly, you will loose effectivness as soon as there is no meat in the inventory left, It doesn't matter, if it wouldn't eat it, because it isn't hungry yet.
You CAN starve-tame, however. This means, you wait, until the hunger of the creature drops much, before you fill in the first food. If you are taming with prime meat. This method might be the best way. Prime will be eaten every 50 hunger-points. But AS SOON AS YOU FILL FOOD INTO THE INVENTORY, YOU MUST FEED IT CONSTANTLY., e. g. having food in the inventory.
So if you need, say 100 prime meat to tame, you should wait, until the hunger is droped at least 5000 points. (this can take serveral hours. Even more is it important to make a taming-pen, )
Oh, and you probably need something to store the meat. A fridge is the best one, but a preserving bin also might work. Preserving bins can also have preserving salt in its inventory, to lengthen the normal preserving. (a fridge can't. ) Also: a preserving bin only needs spark powder to work. a fridge needs electircity. On aberrration, you can use charge-batteries instead, however. You also need a foundation to build both, they can't put on the raw floor directly. But a fridge is, of course, much more expensive to build. And since it is only to store your precious prime meat, the former might be better, even if you HAVE charge batteries. Except, you plan, to use your pen for more carnivores. (or herbivores, if you plan to tame with fruits. They rot as nearly as fast as prime meat...)
You also can roast some of the prime meat. Rosted, it isn't as effectiv as raw, but it rots much slower... (AND it is stackable.) roasted prime is also better than - even raw - normal meat.
Thank you :)
