230 GBs of free space???
So I used to play ark a decent amount but that was a long time ago, a friend of mine just got it and I thought that we could maybe play together but for some reason it needs 230Gb of free space to install?!?! I searched it up and it's only supposed to be about 130 Gbs which was expected. I was wondering why this might be and if there's something I can do to fix this.

130 GB would be the download size but it will unpack to a much larger size. With all the DLCs the file size can reach 400+ GB.

Is that so? I didn't think the DLCs would be so big. Well thanks for the advice.

It's not even just for installing. This game, bar none, has the worst patching system of any game I have ever played. It's not even just installing that's an issue. The way it patches for whatever reason is extremely inefficient. I've never seen anything as bad, though people have cited other games. I think they copy the entire game every update or something. It's ridiculous.

Its something to do with how the Unreal Engine patches. It would not surprise me if Epic Games doctored the Steam (game) versions to make it worse. And for the record Icarus is much, much worse than Ark for the patching time versus the size of the update.

Unreal engine can pack assets very easily; Wildcard chose not to when they originally released it, and can't really change that now without completely devastating mods.
