I think the reason why is that you set the forge or the cooking pot to work, and every so many seconds, it randomly produces an output base on what is in the forge or cooking pot. There are no engrams or blueprints involved to have direct command over the process. The game does not know who should be awarded the xp.

I think you could be right.
Altho iam the only thing with in X of the forge's I get no exp but I go out side my house and my 2 frogs are getting 0.2 exp every couple of seconds
