Trading in Ark
On global I see trades happening all the time. I personally enjoy trading and do with people I have added on steam very often on my server. Dino eggs, pearls, chit, all common currency on the ark.

However just as often as I experience a successful trade I also see a horrible troll trade.

Example;

"Anyone have a decent lvl frog I can trade for" ?

On global this conversation now lasts for half an hour of back and forth

Silence

Then "WTF!"

The person who brought 1k pearls for a frog tame now was killed and the whole server makes fun of the person being dumb or falling for it.

Now I'm not complaining about this... The biggest lesson I get and follow in my game and in my life is you get to know someone first, then do business with them. Never trade with a random person on global. I understand this.

I'm just wondering if, like in many MMO's there could be either

1). "Trade" part of the map - think "the tower" from destiny, or any other game with a no pvp setting in a small area meant for trading. Have options for people to build small market stands via engrams and make a center of commerece

2). Trade menu - tho this wouldn't disable a possible pvp seneraio - a locked trading menu where until both items are selected from each player and then both players hit another agree would the items be instantly swapped between inventors. Again won't stop pvp but is better than just dropping on the floor

3). Your ideas community? Would love to hear any

I'd say that on PvP servers this takes too much away from the risk. That, and you want to be prepared for anything when you walk into a possible trade in PvP - as you would in a real situation where the opposition might kill you. You would want collatoral, some form of guarantee (reliable declaration of immunity?) or to have tribemates watching the trade with decent armour and weapons if you're going to trade with a possible hazard.

Also if you have had any successful trading habits share your stories! If I have a new neighbor in my zone for instance, I tend to introduce my self and off the bat let them know what Dino eggs I'm currently breeding. This 9/10 times leads to its natural conversation of, "well if ur taking these, then I'll tame those!" Then BOOM u just went from having a sketchy neighbor to a invaluable time & mat saving resource.

What are your stories?

What were your biggest trading regrets and horror stories!

Spot on wolf guard - thanks for all your suggestions. I play on PVP server as well and everything u said is spot on. Always be prepared and always bring a buddy

Again best thing to do is only trade with people u have gotten to know enough to add on steam at least.

However now that we are going in this direction here are a few things I tend to do for major trades on PVP server without fully trusting the person

1. Stimulant, lots of stim on a hot bar to counter possible tranqs

2. Two parachets on hot bar - I'm going into trade assuming they will just pick me up on their bird after getting the mats kill me and take their ♥♥♥♥ back

3. One extra set of flak, spike wall, and blood packs -> while some people go in naked I go in ready to treat the situation as a pvp 1on1 immediately - spike wall on hot bar allows me to in a second create cover from shots and ♥♥♥♥ up any Dino that is charging me - extra flak in case mine break - and blood packs on hot bar for obvious reasons

4. A friend - your spot on, always ring a tribe mate - a single other person is enough to scare away most griefers

5. Sleeping bag - ur gonna want to place one down close to trade location - odds are if they do kill u right after trade they are not sticking around to kill your mount, which after losing materials is the last thing u wanna also lose. Now u can spawn at sleeping bag and have a good chance of recovering your mount.

^ if your more paranoid than average also bring full set of extra flak, long rifle, etc and place in small chest next to sleeping bag so u can spawn in and get back to the fight full force

Before my server was accidently wiped, my tribe was one of the top on the server, so I would always have plenty of eggs or spare dinos to trade. And nobody ever tried anything, because they knew what would happen if they did.

Good so establishment of knowledge power and product should produce a safe trading environment.

Totally agree with you here, we also trade with Alpha tribes and always have had good luck so long as you don't spam them, be respectful & punctional, and show up with more to give than u discussed

All good ideas. I'd either have a temporary structure set up for the trade (to safeguard against possible sabotage by mounted dinosaurs) or conceal that my tribemates are present. If I'm trading with someone potentially risky for the first time, I want to know if they're behaving out of courtesy or paranoia; removing the visible risk from other tribemates (eg. Having them somewhere nearby in a ghillie with a sniper rifle) ensures that I'll find out if they value good relations over getting what they want at minimal cost.

If you're really uneasy about a trade, simply bring a powerful dino that could back you up in case of your death. A trade menu would be fantastic, but a trade area is not really needed in my opinion.
Brother Booker Jan 31, 2016 @ 9:44pm
Agreed the more I think about it the more a trade "locked in" menu would be nice
Lazeras Jan 31, 2016 @ 10:18pm
i would like a trade menu burt not a area with restictions would love to be able to build a trade center on my server for other ppl to come to and use think it would add many more diverse options to ark that would work for both pvp and pve
bigsengineer Jan 31, 2016 @ 10:34pm

Thanks for the comment man awesome ideas! Having an area for trade would be awesome! Doesn't have to be restricted but would be cool to see vendor booths hahaha

On My server one alpha tribe has build a large outdoor style Dino pen that's always empty. But they use to announce their next Dino sale and then place about 10-20 for sale at a time. Each Dino's name is changed to the price for it. Because it's an alpha and the trade is usually well populated always tends to go smooth. Hasn't been one in a while but looking forward to the next!

In any of the trade I have done if I am alone I have a few wolves with me cause I travel mostly by land and they are set to either neutral or attack my target, this deters most people who would try anything. Either that or I always make sure to have a tribe mate standing back behind me at an elevated position till I give the signal that the trade is complete will have our best rifle trained on the guys head
