ARK: Survival Evolved
Required Specs For Dedicated Server?
Currently I run a Dedicated Server for use of LAN. I run it of the same Desktop as I run the Client from.

In order to reduce the burden on my CPU(Intel I5-4690K) I was cosidering installing the server on one of my spare laptops.

My options are:
- Acer Aspire E1-522 with an AMD A4-5000 Quadcore CPU, 8gb ram and a 250gb SSD

- Alienware M17x-R4 Intel I7 3630QM Quadcore CPU, 16gb RAM and a 250gb SSD.

Obviously the Alienware is the better choice. But given the fact it uses more power, generates more heat, has louder fans and ties up a gaming laptop; I would like to avoid using the Alienware if possible.

That said, I am not willing to comprimise server on performance. If it needs to be the Alienware, i'll use it.

Will the Acer cut it?

I also run an ARK server instance on a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with 2GB of RAM. It is sufficient for 2 players at a time.

I

uhhhmmmm........

What, you don't believe me? It worked! The old mechanical HDD caused a peroidic lag spike whenever the server autosaved but it was surprisingly functional. The unit was an old Dell Dimension 3100.

how do you run a 64bit program on a 32bit computer?
You don't, however there were a few p4s at the end that had 64bit extensions I believe.
A laptops with decent CPU/RAM/HDD is enough for hosting dedicated server on ARK in LAN mode..
But your laptop wont handle 50-100 players, unless you are playing lower population 1-20 people..
Dont Listen to those idiot mention that hosting a dedicated server need super-highend system which they are comparing with those MMORPG..
Ive been runing ark Server for past year. less then 10 players but has been fine.. So if you don't want huge a lot ppl on. Any decent i5 with 16 GB is enough.. but more players More ram is needed..

I'm using ASM and has been great :)

If your just running the server on one of them and not trying to play the game on that machine I'd just make use of whatever one you use the least. I run a basic server in my house on a tiny dual core 1.8ghz celeron 8gb ram with no problems handling 2 or 3 people at a time. Since they reduced server ram requirements to 2gb you shouldn't need that much. The only drawback is it takes a long time to load.

Several later p4's were 64 bit like the Prescott line.
