Not to mention it requires a sizeable amount of RAM. Each player connected adds to the amount of RAM required which a laptop simply wouldn't have. Spare desktops however may be an option, provided they have a decent CPU and a sizeable amount of RAM.
Also having a few discs in RAID 5 for example would be a way to help ensure stability, and to prevent data loss if a drive goes down (a big thing when you're talking about a server people will be investing a large amount of time in). The internet you have is also a big thing to consider what are your Download/Upload speeds and bandwidth. If you are only able to come up with a laptop to host I'm assuming you are probably living out of your parents house. I doubt they would be very happy with bogging down the internet for a 24/7 hosted server, not to mention the raised electric bill.
These are all things to consider.
Depends on the rig I guess.
You welcome to try, but it's not going to perform very well at all coming from any rented server, or any private home server. My friends and I are about to purchase an older Dell Poweredge 900 with 4 Xeon CPUs and 64GB of RAM to host our world. That's because even my desktop that I having hosting it which is an i7 3960X watercooled and overclocked with 32GB of RAM can bog down if there a several massive structures in an area.
What I'm getting at is this a laptop doesn't have the processing power, multi-tasking ability, or the network card to properly run a dedicated 24/7 server. You're much better off looking at craigslist or ebay and purchasing some older proper servers meant for this type of thing.
Hello, I have ran ARK survival (the graphical game client) on an A6-5200, which is a small step up from your A4-5000. It actually plays albiet at 15 FPS all lowest settings.
I also run an ARK server instance on a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with 2GB of RAM. It is sufficient for 2 players at a time.
I am CERTAIN that your A4 will run ARK dedicated server just fine. The only requirement is that you do so in a headless server to save as much resources as possible for the game.
uhhhmmmm........
I know I am going to get flamed for the comparison but it is no different then a MC server getting wiped every now and then for a fresh start for peeps....
You are far more likely to get flamed for posting something that has nothing to do with the content of the thread.
You don't have "fps" on the server. Your other pc's struggle a bit when it's on the ACER?
Regardless of which one you are running the server on, what are you using to play on (run the client)?
