Species X Plant Question
I planted one in a large plot outside. Placed fertilizer. Allowed the rain to irrigate it rather than building an irrigation pipe to it.

It grew half-way last night and when i logged on this morning, the plant is no longer there.

Does Species X absolutely need constant irrigation outside with a clear view of the sky?

Probably ran out of fertilizer. If you only put in 1 thats why
to grow up it's need 4 fertilizer and permanent irrgation. doesn't need clear vue of the sky; When it will be up, need 1 fertilizer / week (maybe 5/6 days)

It doesn't need permanent irrigation. Loads of people put a bunch of plant x on quetzal back and just let rain irrigate it

No, none of mine are irrigated - rain only after the first planting. I water them once at the beginning then I've never had to water them again. Unless you didn't give it the initial watering, there's no way it should have gone dry overnight.

Once it's grown, fertilizer use seems to be related to the plants firing. If we don't take the raft out that they're mounted on, they hardly use any fertilizer at all.

I've never irrigated a single PSX in my life and I've grown hundreds of them. You probably didn't have enough fertalizer, they burn through more when growing.
I never watered or built any pipes. I let the rains do the first watering. :p Just make sure you have enough fertilizer in before heading off. I didn't even log off of the game until the plants were almost fully grown for mine.

I'm pretty sure it takes a whole fertilizer to grow then after that it's about 1 fertilizer per week. so you probably ran out. it rains enough to keep them irrigated outside

My fertilizer was still in the plot.

Ok, thanks...so i do need to build a water basin and give it permanent irrigation.

It doesn't need an irrigation pipe or water 'basin'. Just use some water canteens to fill when you first plant it then the rain will do the job after that, just put filled canteens in the plot inventory, click remote use, and then remove the canteens. The large plot holds 600 water, so use enough canteens so that it is full when you first plant the seed, then rain will keep it topped up.

No, it just survives off the rain water. The person that said this is wrong. People have plant turrets on quetzals backs all the time with no irrigation

Maybe someone took the seeds or destroyed it

maybe you just found a new disapearing xplant bug..
In my experience they can get by on rain just fine, but only if you give them a starter burst of water by putting a few full waterskins in and emptying them (remote use item). Otherwise the random variation of water level from rain and its lack can dip too low.
