I was wondering the same thing, also from what I've read normal arrows (as I got tons of then) do actually LESS damage than with the crossbow?

IMO no. They seem to cost too much in comparison to the damage they do. I prefer a basic hunting rifle, but that's just me.

Compound bows are probably one of the best weapons you can get, with a metal arrow it will deal 200 damage

I got a journeyman one from the Christmas event, and it one shots people with apprentice flak of 150+ armor, so a normal one is a no-go

1 baby kairuku gives you enough polymer for about 6-10 arrows. Metal and cementing paste aren't too hard at endgame. Thatch and fibre are negligible. Where's the problem?

This bow was worth it before the Penguin and the frog came out. Now that they give you limitless polymer and cement paste, if you still think it's too expensive... then I feel sorry for you. It's hands down the best weapon in the game. I never use any firearm. I walk the island without fear.

You also get your ammo back. I rarely lose an arrow.

Compound bow is now really worth it imo, but it wasnt before the organic polymer. With the kairaku you can get the polymer and the polymer for the metal arrows really easy, and the arrows you will pickup again, atleast most of em. Thing is a longneck with a scope or a machined sniper rifle are better for PvP. I just like to tame things with the compound :)
