You could just host PvE , you can do declaration of war which can only be accepted by the person you want to challenge this then enables PvP between the times you agree on.

That sound like the way I'd want to go, thanks Chinwun.
I don't know if these instructions work for you or if they might be vague to you. So if you need anything else, just ask. Also if you run into any problems let me know.
Ok, I'm ready to give this a go, but I can't do it tonight. I've got the whole day available tomorrow. I'll try and follow these written instructions and whatever comprehensible info I can google or youtube. But yeah, it would be good to talk to someone if necessary; I'm a v. slow typist. Do I friend you on Steam to get your Skype? (have never done this on Steam before so not quite sure how to do it). I'd only contact you at a time that would be convenient for you. Cheers.
Strange.
Just start the game make the needed adjustments and click on Start Dedicated server, when the server starts, stop Steam from you windows Task Manager, start it again and run ARK, then just join your own server :) there are thons of tutorials and it's really easy ...
I'm not going to be able to run a dedicated server under those conditions, am I?
quote=margalus;451848855001100340]the dedicated server is just a program that runs the game world, it is not a playable version of the game. There is no graphical representation or simulation of the world that you can see. It is just a program running. You can only see the world in the clients that connect and play on the server. The server does not need a gpu at all. cpu, ram, operating system and storage is all you need [/quote]
Just message me later and we can add each other on Skype and I can also help with port forwarding if you need.
