Dino harvesting - how does it work?

I've seen everyone talk about using dinos to harvest wood, stone, metal, etc., but I can't figure out how this works. Can someone explain how to get a dino to harvest? Do I set it to aggressive? Do I have it wander? Do I have to physically be with it?

majority of dinos you have to ride and attack what ever you are trying to harvest. only the doedicurus and the giganto can be set to wander and collect stone and fiber currently

Most herbivores that u can ride on can harvest mats. For example, if u have a trike and a saddle for it, ur attack will harvest berry bushes, and thatch from trees

Dang... I have to actually ride it? I find it to be a huge burden to gather rocks and metal right now... so I tamed an Anklo for this, but I can't make the saddle for another 15 levels :(

Some creatures you can set to harvest, like the gigantopithecus or however it's spelled

Gigantopithecus(FIBER) Doedicurus(STONE) and Mesopithecus(Berries) can all gather when set to wander
