WARNING TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO USE SEA MINES.
first let me give you a bit of a backstory. i have nearly 2k hours sunk in this game, a good portion of that has been building my sea base, its gotten to the point where its pretty nice and i was fairly happy with it. when i seen the new sea mines come out i read the description "Hinder attacks on swimming cities" figured hey finally something i can use to defend my foundations. so i built some and chucked em around my base.

around my base i have auto turrets and sea mines. today i had just finished crafting about 600 auto turret rounds and was about to go put them into the turrets which are underwater, i was doing so when i was attacked by a wild megalodon and for some reason when i defended myself, for all i can figure out what happened a sea mine blew up. even though this mega was wild. not only that but it completely destroyed all foundations within the blast radius of the explosion taking out all the floor roof everything above it, below it. everywhere. auto turrets destroyed, tons of work. i cannot demolish these mines without them blowing up. basically all the time and effort i put into this base is a ticking time bomb from the effort i put into creating these mines. i play on an official pvp server so i know you have to expect to lose everything. but to know that all it takes is someone to set off one of these mines? and for my own work to destroy everything ive worked for? its kinda saddening. if anyone has played on an official server then you would know how much effort it takes to build stuff.

i know theres prob going to be trolls who come take the ♥♥♥♥. i dont care. fact is i didnt understand the use of these things, and its a mistake i cannot fix. which sucks. i really do not know if i can continue playing this game knowing what i know now.

let this be a warning to anyone else who plans to use these things. they are friendly fire. they will destroy your base if you place them near it. do not use them anywhere near structures.

i highly doubt any dev will see this let alone do anything about it, ive lost glitched dinos and everything but this is by far the worst thing thats ever happened to me in this game.

this sucks.

Thanks for warning the community mate.
Sorry to hear you lost a lot and might lose a lot more.

Hope you have enough farmed stuff so you can start over elsewhere or demolish the mines yourself as controlled as possible.

Sorry for your loss man. Have you tried rocketing the devs to see if they'll help you out? I believe they do on occasion.

dunno if it will halp but maybe try to build a wall of wood around them then detonate? I don't think splash damage would go THROUGH walls to damage something on the other side? Maybe it does hen it destroys the structure I duno.

Why would you put a MINE so close to your base xD You'd think you would test its blast radius first haha

Thanks for the warning, mate.

Unfortunate you had to learn the hard way, especially after thousands of hours. How did you not expect a high explosive compound wrapped inside a metal case to not damage your base? IEDs and C4 are friendly fire as well, aren't they? At least that's what I've always assumed... Don't feel like blowing myself up to check, either.

I've never had a reason to build sea mines, but I will take this into consideration when/if I build a sea base.

i guess i thought because the tracking wasnt friendly fire that the blast wouldnt be either. with what i know now yes it probably was my mistake and ive used them in the wrong context.

They also target wildlife. Trilobyte explosion -_-
Catslock Dec 31, 2015 @ 2:51am
Their utility is probably for deep sea fighting in pvp for when you want to take the axe to people while surrounded by sharks and such.

the blast radius is huge, it went through stone and metal. but thanks for the idea

yes i think you are correct, they are most likely designed to be used in battle to protect mobile platform bases and to deny certian sea routes.
