The temperature varies during the day cycle and the night cycle....

It's also probably made of Thatch, which is nice in the Tropics but in the depths of Winter... not so much. Grass huts don't get used much in Winter climates. ;)

It was still the same night, my character was just like stuck on freezing lol
I'll build a second fire next time though and see if that helps.

Yeah... I am only level 6 so it is all I can afford :(
What is a fast way to level up so that I don't have to deal with crummy thatch?

Building/Crafting is probably the easiest for leveling up, like building a bigger house etc, making clothes. I know it;s rough for the new folk with the winter event, been glad it;s enjoyable for more than just big tribe players this time but still wish they thought a little more about the new players who don;t have higher level players to help them. Anyways standing torches will also provide warmth and will take up less ground/floor space as well as burn longer on tatch, wood etc than the campfire will. Just can;t cook with them.

Also when you get the chance try unlocking the mortel and pestle and nercotics. It might be tough to do at first though but later when your able to kill stuff and get enough nercoberries it can provide decent expereince to craft those. Consider doing a nercoberry crop as your first small crop and using feces as fertilizer.

Right now though I realize first thing to take care of is surviving the cold. A campfire, some torches, inside a house, clothing, and of course make sure use your handtorch even if it isn;t dark it'll provide some heat as well, you may want to create a second one as backup incase one burns out and your still need to get the resources to repair it, and of course grab as many berries as you can, they can provide food and a little bit of hydration, and kill dodos and dilos for meat.

You can also try and tame a dodo to store some stuff on it to last a little longer but know that may be difficult with standing in the cold while it;s taming. Maybe do it while your out gathering on a less cold day.

Anyways let us know how it goes. Welcome to the game and don;t worry the winter event isn;t perminant. Should be over in about a week or so kinda forgot what day it started but it;s supposed to last two weeks total I tihnk lol

Also the weather can be random even in one place. It may not always be consisant even when logging out and back in on singleplayer. You'll get got hot days, and cold days, and days that are hot and then cold later etc and foggy. I've restarted my game on a foggy day and returned to it being clear lol

Make clothes and a torch as well. Put the clothes on, hold the torch, and stand next to the fire. Tada! No more freezing!
just freeze and die several times to get to that point of hanging around a fire to not die. AWESOME
Only the truly inept or the REALLY inexperienced survival gamer does that. :D

Good for the neckbeards and the validity of the "real gamer" ... but hey go with that

1) Get Hide armour asap. It's warm.
2) Put points into Fortitude. Really.
3) So many people run constantly in the game, which is mind-numbingly stupid, so don't be one of these people - it burns up Stamina and you then burn through food.
4) Carry a torch for a bit of extra warmth.
5) Even better, Tame a Penguin, because these radiate warmth.
6) Eat cooked meat rather than berries.
7) Don't sit next to a fire doing nothing - Craft things to level up.

Best advice of all is spawn WAY down South. The beaches are pretty mild there.

What level is hide armor?

I see, alright. Thank you very much.

Most heat sources (or hypothermal insulation buffs) will stack.
Check the wiki for their specific hypothermic figures. But a single campfire alone doesn't provide all that much.

This should help you solve most of these small questions.

hold down H it shows temp... some times u get a really cold night. the other day i was actually freezing in south 2 and im lvl 76 wearing some pretty beefy armor and 24 fort. surprised was a word yes. but some times the temps just are dramatically high or low. on those days nights deal with them. stay inside by torches and fires or stay by water if hot. quickest way to level i found has been to focus on gathering and crafting. like say narco.

is one space heater enough to heat an entire home? i think not :D

Show me the heater that easily reaches a temperature of 900°C and i'll consider your point.
I lived in a very large house for many years, heated only by a single fireplace. It kept the outer rooms tolerable, and the adjoining rooms very warm. The winters would get well below 0 Farenheit.

Is there a way to make it constantly show all that stuff..?

I got caught out in a blizzard at night up north on my raft a few days ago.The tempurature dropped to -15c food was running low, only had hide armor and the shore was camped by several large carnivores. I had a campfire on the raft but it still wasnt enough to stop the HP dropping faster than and argy poop so in a last ditch effort I layed prone next to the fire and it worked HP stabilized and I survived until the storm passed over and sunrise warmed up.

I actually rage quit and when I read those comments started the game again to build a second fire. However... I wasn't freezing to death anymore..? Buggy game :/

There are actually mountains that I have to put 3 fires around me while wearing flak to survive a night. If it bothers you too much though you can make fur I don't think I have ever seen the ice cube while wearing fur.

If you're on a small rise a few minutes walk from a beach that's "too warm" and night falls, you build a fire and huddle next to it, fully clothed (in cloth) between a couple rocks out of the wind, you really shouldn't freeze to death in under 1 min of game time somehow. It just makes no sense. If it got that cold at night, the many plants and animals in the area would all be dead, it'd be a mostly barren tundra.

I mean...there really wasn't any wind, not sure if this game even has that... and there was no rain or any other weather elements...just nightfall, quick freezing death just off the edge of a tropical forest, near a beach....
