Why can't I buy Explorer's Edition as Steam Gift?

Hi dudes. I'm wanting to buy a friend of mine a copy of Ark's Explorer's Edition as advertised on the store for about euro 23 and it won't let me buy it, the purchase button appears as "dimmed", not clickable. And I'm not going to spend the full price on a present, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Why is this so?

I would blame this on Steam and not the developers although Steam does what the developer(s) ask.
I'm sure someone here in the ARK forum will know why Steam is acting funny.

Send your friend the money, as a workaround.

Any suggestion as to how to send the money? I mean, can Paypal be used to pay on Steam, for example? Thanks!

Sometimes you get special deals 'for the buyer' that just don't transfer if you try to purchase as a gift.

I meant post a Steam card to your friend, or transfer to their bank, or just hand it over directly to them.
