Purpose of taming timers?
I was wondering why it takes so incredilby long to tame things in this game. I mean, a level one Pteredon is a 1 hour minimum, with much larger, higher level creatures taking up to 25 hours to tame.

I've always just assumed this was put into the game because of its "always active" persistent nature of the dedicated servers and as a way to balance pvp. But in my mind, it serves no purpose in local/singleplayer. I know you can make the taming go a bit faster in the host options, but I was told it can't exceed x3? That's not correct is it?

I usually just end of doing the "DoTame" command and dropping the appropriate supplies to effectively buy wild dinos after I tranq them because it's a little excessive to have to wait around when there's no reason to.

Just turn up your timers in the options, You can always revert it too default settings if you ♥♥♥♥ something up so go wild and set up the options. Its more to get people to work together on official servers. Playin alone your gonna wanna turn that up to atleast 2x along with breeding

I guess we all do it like this.
The taming mechanic was introduced as a placeholder for the "real" taming that never came...
Imagine the fun you have online when a net worth of 300 taming hours is chomped by your Rex.
The only thing i don't get is why the tribe who lost all their ♥♥♥♥ isn't online anymore... Strange...

While the numbers on the right side of a slider doesn't go above a set number when all the way to the right, you can still override this default max , by simply entering another number.
Just click on the number and enter a new one, this way you can have (as example) a x50 times faster taming if you so whish.

That's good to know, I wasn't sure typing in a custom value actually worked

I believe its good that on official servers it hard to get a good dino, since they are incredebly usefull. But since i dont have the time i play on a pve server with taming x20, it works perfectly fine you just have to change it manually and not by the slider :)

That's why I said "up to" and besides, that's still nearly 4 hours of sitting around doing nothing.

That's on official servers. I thought you were playing single player? You can speed up single player so I'm not really understanding your point.

I'm asking why the game is like that at all. The timers seem extreme.

Bigger , more badass dino require more attentions , or else even noob will ride best dino in game which is unworthy for them .

1000000% agree OP like i said to a tribe mate other day is that they need to at the very least cut the tame/baby timers down to at least 1/4 what they are currently set to. quit using kibble as a excuse to justify why it takes so damn long to tame dinos and fix the issue. you had no problem up n nerfing them hardcore now neft the stupid obscene length.

for awhile i almost quit the game cause i couldnt be bothered to tame anything that takes over a hour anymore since its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo f'en boring,

who the hell wants to spend up to 25 hours to tame anything. how the hell do you even think thats acceptable in the first place? instead you introduce kibble which then requires us to each onw like 200+ dinos that we dont even need just for eggs which means way more tamed dinos on servers then needed creating more lag and stress on servers. seriously get rid of the whole kibble concept and fix the damn timers themselves.

my 3 man tribe alone has like 1000(at least. probably more) dinos between the 3 of us(we all have our own bases but do babies together) all just for eggs. you guys are seriously shooting yourself in the foot with this kibble idea just to justify your extremly overboard obscene timers. i shouldnt need 100 unsless scorpions(as example) just to make a dinos tame time shorter. its plain stupid every way you look at it.
