Best place to live and build a base?
I have been playing 700+ hours solo and have alot of experience in surviving on the ARK and I'm restarting my character and wonder where to live next. I'll still be playing solo.
Things I am looking for:
-Plenty of resources (obviously)
-Easy place to build a base
-Nice and quiet area (hard to find in ARK)
-Easy and short way to water
I'd like to have at least 2 of those traits on my base location.

Locations that I've lived on:
-West 1
-South of volcano at the small lake (refer to map)
-Below the east swamp (refer to map)

All help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

That's a great idea! Thanks. I'll keep that in mind.

Underwater cave. You are quite safe if you secure it with tons of turrets.

You can also try your luck with rafts. With good build you can park them at the zone border so that your stuff is unreachable by the alpha trolls

I play singleplayer so I do not have to worry much about getting raided exept maybe for alpha predators. Thanks for taking the time to write a reply though :D

The hidden lake is a nice spot that can be easily defended. The only problem now is beavers spawn there, and they can be a pain if you accidentally hit one.

I'm not worried too much about the beavers :) That is a great spot too. It is going to be a hard choice between Herbivore Island and HiddenLake. Good spot to keep in mind though. Thanks for the reply.

I usually go north east of the hidden lake, theres another pond like thing there. Looks beautiful and the worst thing to spawn there is dilo's. Metal is a flight away by even a ptera, rex's and spino's in a nearby river. Scorps a bit west. And oil a decent flight west.

Personal fav spot.

Herbivore gets crowded fast. 2 based on it turns to total war.
I play singleplayer.

Ya that's sounds like a good spot too. Are you sure there are no sarcos there? I know hidden lake has sarcos. In the trailer there was a sarco.

If the choice comes down to Herbivore (South Haven Island) and Hidden (Pearl) Lake, I would select Pearl lake as it only requires 3 Gates to block the entrances and does not have the Bontosaurus spawning problem which Herbivore has. If building on Herbivore however, make sure you place X-plants above and to either side of the cliffs in order to cull the Brontosaurus Spawns and accumulate a wealth of Prime meat.

I established in between the two on the cliff tops and just below. With judicious building, you can work it so you only force one of the beacons to despawn as a result of proximity. However, it's not good for metal. I have a wing of argies and I fly them up to the mountain top for that, and I established an FOB there with all my building stations, including a fabricator. I also escorted an ankylo up there. This has allowed me to remake my primary base out of metal.

Were I to restart, I'd like to get a presence on the peninsula near 50/50, and I saw some lovely flat territory around 29/58. I think both of those would be great. Top of my list for a new base would probably be some neat land I saw north of the bay at 58/17 as I've not explored that section of the island much, being as it is diametric to my current map location. I might also enjoy the challenge of swamp living, though I hear that the paracers can be annoying.

Zueljin created a water base this season (current) on his YouTube channel. I can tell that it's very challenging, and you can't land or carry animals which have platform capabilities on the rafts. I still think it's a cool thing to try and maybe worth the effort just so you can park yourself over a cave, or move to be closer to resources that you may need for a while.

True. I did notice the bronto problem on Herbivore Island. I went there and saw at least 6-10 brontos on the island. The hidden lake area is very peaceful but, there is occasional carnos, sarcos and probably even spinos there so that is very dangerous for a low-mid level player. But I am more on the side of Hidden Lake. Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated :D

i can confirm i've had a sarco spawn at hidden lake but other than that i've only ever had a dilo spawn in and it seems pretty good so far

I will check those places out! I might also try the swamp challenge but I do lose quite alot of FPS in the swamps and will get 15-25 FPS instead of 25-45 FPS but that might just add to the challenge :D. I might even try the snow since I lose no FPS there but I gain some. I did see Zueljin's base. It looks absolutely awesome! Thanks for the reply :D

I was killed there by an Alpha Raptor (44). :(
The lake has cycles - herbivore to carnivore. Lately, with the multitude of beavers, it's mostly herbivore. I watched (kited) a midlevel carno get taken out by 3 beavers.
