It's a graphics issue. Ps mining helmet sucks.

If I use the -sm4 and -d3d10 launch options the miner's helm doesn't produce light, but without those it does. So that may be your issue as well.

It's the best piece of armor in the game, more so than the riot helmet

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it comes in better than primitive versions, so it's not too hard to end up with flak that's got better protection, and have to choose between protection and light. Or maybe there are blueprints for higher-tier miner's helmets and no one on my server has found one?

Higher quality miner's helm exist for sure. On my old official-pve server I had a mastercraft miners helm and a few j-man ones. On my new official-pvp server we have found several ramshackle miner helms in the sky drops. It's better to find the helm it's self though since the material needed to craft a high quality miners helm aren't really worth it.

The light is useless for some people as it doesn't work due to graphics and also people use gamma.

Secondly I agree regarding the material cost. A flak helmet costs ingots hide and finer while a miners helmet costs an array of "harder" to gather materials.

So you've gotten the actual helmets in beacons, or blueprints, or both?

Toatally sucks but you can put a bone helmet skin on it and the glare machine goes away while maintaining stats. Didn't try other skins

They drop more often in the red cave drops and i've found both.
