Double characters when trying to type? *solved*
So I'm having this really odd issue, seems to have only started with the 236 update. Once I am in ARK all key presses register as a double press. It made joining my server a pain because instead of *password* it was trying to type like *ppaasssswwoorrdd*. Once in the same issue was occuring in the console, trying to enable commands so I could do a creature wipe, but I got "eennaabblleecchheeaattss*, and couldn't do individual backspaces, EVERYTHING was registering double. Anybody else had this issue? If so any fixes?

*UPDATE*
So what Spamlet said worked out. I didn't reset, I instead set ARK to windowed fullscreen and the problem vanished. I just switched back to fullscreen and the issue came back. So fullscreen is out of the equation for now. Thanks for the solution though Spamlet!

*UPDATE**AGAIN*
If what was posted here prior doesn't work, or as some, you aren't content with that being your "fix", then try this.

I had the same problem here my solution:
I changed a setting in my Nvidea Gforce experience,

-Open NVidea Gforce Experience
-At the right upper corner u find a sharing button the three dot thing. (klick it)
[[In my case it was called (Instant replay) [This thing was turned on]]]]
-Turn Instand replay off, by klicking it en selecting turn off.

In my case i closed the windows and tried my ark game again and the problem was fixed.:)

This worked for me hove in works for u 2.
It has worked for others, so hopefully it will work for anybody else that has this problem or comes across it. Thank you to them for finding something that works

Do you have a macro/script running at the same time, for rock picking up or force feeding? I know when I am running my baby-dino feeding script(my server has increased food consumption so baby dinos starve before they grow) and I type my chat often looks exactly like that. Just have your macro on toggle and only type with it off.

If you aren't using one, then I have no clue.

Restarted your computer? Does this happen outside of the game at all?

No macros, and I rebooted thinking it may help, but to no avail :( Some other issues I have noticed are: trying to access the console is a huge pain. Tab will open it, but who knows how many more times it will require being pressed to move to the top and then exit out. Scrolling up and down through previously used commands is painful, skips at random over one or two at a time. Keypresses sometimes don't seem to work in the console. And it seems I am getting this EVERYWHERE you can type INSIDE (excluding anything in steam overlay which works normally) of ARK but nowhere outside of it. Copy pasta is a pain as well because it doesn't like to paste or paste what I want (though it may work a touch better if I used notepad instead of overlay, I know I've had copy pasta problems with overlay in the past.) I'm not sure what is causing this honestly.

I had the same issue. What solved it for me was clicking "Reset Resolution" when given the option to start ARK in different modes.

*UPDATE*
The double characters come back when ARK is set to full screen, but there is no issue when it is windowed...

Verify your game files, double check your keyboard (batteries? interference? Is there a spider's nest inside the USB port -- not kidding) and test your key presses after a reboot in notepad to make sure it's ARK or something you're loading between a reboot and starting ark. What happens if you load ark and then task switch to notepad; does the issue persist?

I'll have to try this then

Yeah it's none of those issues (though I will keep them in mind for future reference). Running on an Origin laptop (if you want to call it that,) so the keyboard is nice and connected. And yeah, I rebooted, verified, everything I could think. If I alt tab out, everything is fine, even steam overlay works fine inside of ARK. But ARK itself was returning double of any key press probably a solid 80% of the time. I tested it in other games, notepad, Steam, Chrome, and various other programs and it seems to be strictly stuck to ARK.

Have the same issue. But windowed fullscreen causes fps loss. Do you have any other solution ?

Sorry for the necro but I'm having the same problem all of the sudden, I keep getting double keypresses but only when typing in game, not anywhere else, and only when I am in fullscreen mode. Does anyone know why or how to fix this yet?

Window borderless or Windowed, like spamlet and my update at the bottom of my post said

Same here, it's causing me to be unable to use Shadowplay because of it :(
BozzerxD Sep 7, 2016 @ 4:47pm
its shadow play turn it off them youll be all good :) even when full screen
optimizasean Sep 11, 2016 @ 4:25am
It's not shadow play, I dont run that and I also have this issue, running on Alienware 15 R2 with graphics amplifier, also happens without graphics amplifier, and even when only on primary card. It's ARK only that does it, not even any other games or anything, verified and all files are good...Did all the testing listed above and it still happens no matter what...

... I have posted my solution. It was what it took to get it to work. If that isn't it I don't know what to tell you. Not trying to come across as rude, but really. You found the thread, and that's great. Read it. Multiple times I have given the solution, as have others, I've even marked it as solved and edited the initial post to refect that. I made this in Feb. and I am still getting notifications on it, but nobody has even said they bothered to try what Spamlet and I said to do from the beginning.
Dj_Dill_Pickle Sep 13, 2016 @ 3:28pm
so i have been having this issue, and i know you say it is solved but fullscreen is not the problem for me. I have tried turning off shadowplay and that had not fixed it either. If anyone knows what to do it would be really helpful thx in advance

I don't know what to do in your situation. If you have tried everything in this thread, then my best advice to you is to either try and send an email to Studio Wildcard if they have a support email (I'm sure they do but I haven't checked myself since I haven't needed it), or create your OWN topic. I don't want to come across as mean/rude, and I am sorry you are having issues, but everybody else aside from me has long abandoned this, and the only reason I haven't is because it is my post and I am trying to leave it up so if somebody has this issue they can try what has been suggested. But in prior comments I have stated I do not know how to fix it if my solution or even the others offered don't work. I am sorry you are having issues, but asking in a thread from over half a year ago probably isn't going to yield very many results. Post in the discussions. Overall my experience with the community has been good, I am sure somebody will come along to help, it just may take some time. I hope you fix your problem, but I don't know how to help you.
