ARK: Survival Evolved
Castoroides info thread
Spawning seems to be in the interior rivers just outside of the swamp areas.

This was done in single player with increased rates. It still harvested between 3x and 4x what I get with a metal axe.

It's torpor drops like a rock, around 2pts per second.
Prefers Mejoberries to the others.
Wiki says it likes Gallimimus kibble[ark.gamepedia.com], may or may not be accurate. http://ark.gamepedia.com/Giant_Beaver
Saddle is level 60.
It can breathe and attack underwater.
If you dismount it underwater it will return to the surface. Not good for deep sea exploration unless you're going into an underwater cave and don't want to use a frog.
It's saddle works like a smithy with no slot limit, only the creatures weight determines how much you can load onto it.
It can attack while sprinting, making it great for chasing down stuff.
It's attack has a oddly broad range it easily hits flying bugs, and it even hit a compy that was directly behind it.
It is gathering seeds better than my stego.
It's attack has a decent knockback effect, it also seems to be somewhat resistant to knockback effect (being hit by a wild saber only pushed it back about a foot). It managed to knockback a rex more than it a rex knocked it back.
Poops medium size feces.
Will allow you to craft and repair all standard smithy items from it's inventory (can't craft or repair fabricator items as expected).
Can only hold up to it's maximum weight stat. Cannot over-encumber.

Wood, Thatch, and Fiber weights all drop to 1/5 or 20% of their weight when transferred to the beaver's inventory. Stone's weight is reduced by 1/2 or 50% All other items weight remains the same (tested sparkpowder, oil, chitin, keratin, cementing paste, pearls, obsidian, metal ore, metal ingots, electronics, polymer (standard), gunpowder, angler gel, cloth armor, flak armor, riot armor, composite bow, crossbow, stone arrow, tranq arrow, metal arrow, narcotics, all berries and seeds).
Wood 50.00 -> 10.00
Thatch 02.00 -> 00.40
Fiber 02.00 -> 00.40
Stone 50.00 -> 25.00

Something to add to this thread. While collecting in forests and on beaches these guys get more wood than thatch. While collecting trees in water and swamps they get more thatch than wood.

It's an odd choice by the devs, but interesting and gives a new aspect where location could determine just how useful one can be.

Op might wanna add that it gathers thatch on SWAMP biome trees but gathers wood on FOREST biome trees, also a normal stack of wood weighs 50lbs, on the beaver it only weighs 10lbs so it can gather a lot more at low levels then most farming tames.

I'm in love with my beaver.

anyone know if they spawn in valhala?

No, do not naturally spawn in Valhalla until the map is updated. Admin can force/summon spawn them though.
I found one in hidden lake next to my base there.
These things do vex me. I have been flying around for an hour or so and have found none, probably just going to spawn some in at this rate xD

If you're on SP they are pretty rare. I flew around for almost 8 hours and still only found them in the few spots I showed. I have my dinocountmultiplier turned up to 2.0 so there are plenty of dinos around, but they still seem to be pretty rare even so. Spawning one in may be your best bet.

I did DWD 40 times, closed out of my game 6 times and finally found a pair. Not a mated pair though :/ I was tempted to replace Pteranodon spawns with beavers ill be honest.

Not the worst idea. But after the patch I did a DWD and it took me almost an hour to find the first one. In the following hours I started spotting more and more. In total I have found about six across the entire island. If you don't mind losing a dino in the place of another a beaver is a great option to have more of. I also noticed the ones I have found are in dangerous places with carnivores nearby like sarcos, carnos, and raptors. So from my observations it could be an issue of carnivores eating them when they spawn.
Any info on dam building yet?

It isn't implemented yet, if it ever will be, who knows, but for now there hasn't been any reports or sightings of it.

Source? Or is it just because there hasn't been many sightings? Seen a few screens and a video that show them but can't find them on our offcial server..

I saw the official spotlight video that had the dams in it, but I haven't seen anything that is released yet officially that has them implemented. The bits I have seen are from the dev kit and are part of mods.

So as of yet I can't find where the dams are officially released. Only places I've seen them are from guys using the dev kit and getting them from there as part of a mod.

Honestly I'm hoping to see them around soon as kind of a primitive wall structure for early game base protection.
did anyone found a dam yet?
Yeah dams exist but are pretty rare, they spawn near waterfalls quite a bit and spawn either alone or in numbers. They can spawn with random amounts of wood, cementing paste, silica pearls, rare mushrooms and rare flowers in them. I think they work like drops/ beacons would and spawn randomly but obviously probably have set locations I'd guess at the end of waterfalls.

In the spotlight there's a clip obviously at the end of a waterfall, and in MeatyLock's video there's some near the green obelisk waterfall.

I know what they do tested them prior to launch, dev told us they work like drops. They can get damaged too by wild dinos and from testing they have about 1867k HP.

yesterday i tried to tame a beaver in singleplayer, he was to strong and killed me. from the spawnpoint i moved to the beaver again, it takes about 5-10 minutes. When i saw the beaver again he builds a dam. So maybe he just build it in wild life, not tamed.

Doosier says wild ones build them
Really another tame wiith a high torpor drop , and isn't even as good at gathering wood as a mammoth? No thanks.

I will save my narcotics for something worth the resource sink.
