A guide to dimetrodon eggs
Many of you more high tier players have most likely struggled to squeeze out eggs from your dimetrodons. Well, I did too. I tried many different ways, such as making ramps, pens, putting them in "shallow water" (but so that they are in fact STANDING, and not swimming).
Turns out that standing part is not true (at least for me).
Here's a screenshot of how you optimally want your dimetrodons to be placed. You need a water area which is deep enough for them to swim in. Get a male too and an ovi fairly close.
Here's a screenshot for reference.

Just wanted to share my experience, as I tried a lot of things suggested by posts without results. After having them swimming statically they laid eggs within 30 seconds.

Cheers

Although they're one of the hardest creatures to tame in the game (since you can't leave them alone for more than 30 seconds), they seem to lay eggs more than other dinos, in my experience. Leaving them on wander makes it easy to find them.

While I agree that they are a major pain to tame, not to mention they use the same kibble as gigas, I still don't feel like they lay major amounts of eggs ;)

Join a tribe with a few people that are online the same time you are. Egg laying depends on the players that are near the dinos. We had a time in our tribe where only 1-2 people were online, after the snow biome patch. I wanted to get carno eggs, but they rarely dropped, I was standing near them some hours and maybe got 3-4. Then more people started to play again and one could find way more eggs than before, my guess would be 10x the rate. Don´t worry about ramps or water, worry about how many people are online in your tribe.
PS: And tame more females.

This worked for me! Thanks

I tried this a few days ago while trying to get them to lay eggs...
They wouldn't stay in the water, instead swimming to the closest land mass then sitting on the shore. Tried to fence them in - this worked for eggs, started getting 10+ eggs a day. But then they just started dying for no reason.

FYI, the way I did my tame was to grab them with a quetz and drop them into a taming pen. Beat them up a bit til they are about 10%HP, let them recover most of the way (dont let them fully recover) and do it again. Before they recover fully the following time, go to KO them. Their food bar will be nicely down so the taming portion goes quicker.

Not sure if they are better ways, but this worked well for me.

As for eggs, I havent gotten any yet, but I dont have an Ovi - its next on the to do list.

Why would you tame an ovi last? Bro, learn the game.

Who said anything about last? Still have plenty of other species to get. Only even had the means to tame within the last 50-60hrs (eggs), just been pre occupied with relocating base.
