Screen Shots Don't Work?
Anyone have any idea why my screen shot stopped working? It use to work in ARK Survival by pressing the F12 button but no longer works I didn't change anything.

Some one I play with mentioned checking the key bindings, not sure if steam has it's own key bindings but i couldn't find them, I did check key bindings with in the ARK game and I saw nothing that would lead you to believe it controlled the screen shot option.

I did find the settings within steam, View/Setttings/ In-Game. It is already set to the F12 button. I reset it to the F12 buuton and then tried the F10 and F11 and it still doesn't work, any idea why this just stopped working? I tried the varify files also still no work,

You may need to hold down "Control (ctrl)" or "Command (cmd) while pressing the F keys. I remember from Minecraft, that i couldn't just press the F keys, i had to hold down ctrl/cmd and press it to get it to work. I'm guessing that it's the same.

steams screenshot function dosnt work if you dont have steam overlay/ingame enabled, dunno about other reasons a screenshot button would break.

I also had this problem if you are running overlay programs like msi afterburner fps cam to display your fps and other stats close it first then start the game then it will work

Not running any of those

One day it worked, next day it didn't. I run NO overlays and can't even located where the f-key bindings are located. This is on a single player game.

OK this posting is 4 years old and I believe what happen is some times if ARK crashed or freezes some of the steam setting can get messed up. So I will give you the information I have learned and hope one of these solutions help you.

One you mentioned key bindings, if you launch ARK and get to the 1st splash screen on the left you click the Options button prior to playing. Once your in the options click the 3rd icon at the top of the options screen labeled Key Bindings, see my screen shot below. Be aware the in game screen shot key bindings are not controlled through the ARK game settings for key bindings, it is done through the steam settings, read next section below. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2131913194

The screen shot option settings are located in the steam browser when you first launch steam. In the steam browser you see 5 small links at the top called Steam, View, Friends, Games and Help. Left Click the Steam link and select Settings and a new small window will open. From there on the left click the text labeled In-Game and on the right of that new window you will see a little box with text above it labeled Screenshot shortcut keys. Move your mouse over the text field of the box and left click in the box and then hit your F12 Key to bind your screenshot in ARK to the F12 key. Now hit OK button at the bottom of the window and restart steam and your screen shot should work in game now.

Thank you Nebula..I just started playing Ark recently and this was the only place I found anything similar to my current issue. I have checked Steams settings, it is still f12..I changed it restarted everything, nothing. Closed the game and restarted Steam again, changed it back to F12..and it still will not take a screen shot, in fact, I occasionally get a whistle..I have no group whistles bound to anything. It is just mind boggling that no changes in bindings or settings were made by me and poof...it just stopped working.

Appreciate the answer on an old thread, but obviously the issue is still happening.

OK then it has to be the files, do this...

Go to your library left click on Ark to select and then right click and hold and a menu will pop up select properties. Then from the new window click the top tab LOCAL FILES. Click the Button that says Verify Integrity Of Game Files. You probably have some missing or corrupted files. This can happen when games freezes, crashes. Ark is pretty big so it will take some time to verify and when it finds some bad files it will just re-download them at the end of the process.

Good luck I am thinking this is the issue and if this works remember in the future with any steam game if you start having issues Verify Integrity Of Game Files first thing.
