Eggs, Laying Times and 'Herd Sizes'
This is mostly aimed at those who have egg farms up and running - I'm setting up an 'egg farm' to assist in my making kibbles. I'm playing SP with near Official Server settings (5x Tame Speed), Reason being, on anything higher I don't really need kibble, something I need to learn to make and use, as well as get my head around farming.

This is my first foray into having dinosaurs specifically as egg layers. Typically I just get a war mount and the standard gatherers (Trike, Anky, Doed, Mammoth) At the moment I intend to run a 1 male/2 female set up. When specifcally wanting just the eggs, does having a male around assist in laying speed? I have a Parasaur herd (1M/2F), 2 Stego females (the male is 'stuck' and will be tamed soon) and I have a male and female Trike also lined up to keep my current 'battle mount' (102 Trike) company. I also have a Dodo pair (both 100+, so couldn't pass it up) and my Dilo hunting team - 2 males and 2 females.

The Dodos have laid quite a few eggs since I started collecting them, the Dilos have laid less but that could just be because I've been using them on hunting runs. My Parasaurs and Stegos are frustrating me. I've had the Parasaur females for ages (couple real-time days) and my lowest level Parasaur laid an egg soon after I put her at my base (note: I didn't have the male at that stage). My 'main' mount, a 125 female Parasaur has yet to lay even 1 egg and I've had her since Day 2 of this particular SP game (of 19 days thus far - my day/night cycles are slower/faster). Does having a saddle on her stop her from laying eggs? And does the level of the dinosaur, or the type, determine how often they lay eggs?

Aside from getting an Oviraptor (which is on the cards, but I need bigger/better eggs to tame effectively - obviously) is there anything else I can do? Or anything I should be doing that I'm not?

Thanks in advance.

so, this is what I've found when it comeds to laying eggs.

a) 1 male to 3 females, if you want a higher rate of egg laying start a 2nd group, the 2nd group MUST be far enough away from the first so that they don't share the mate boost (other wise it's just one group!)
b) The level of your egg levels maters! While any egg layer is better than none egg layers that are over level 100 will lay more eggs.

If your on a unoffical server the mod 'Ark Automated' is handy as it has an egg create wich will automaticly pickup the eggs for you.

If your going to use an Oviraptor to boost egg production then (depending on the size of your herd) get them in pairs. Get them into position and load them down with wood or stone so they can't move. You have to have them on wander for them to provide a boost. (I place mine under the floor of where the dino's are stationed, on this floor I have the feeding troffs/egg creates/oviraptors, basicly it's a service level). You will probbly end up needing multiple 'sets' of oviraptors as your herd grows. I currently have 3 sets of oviraptors.

Thanks for the info Manalo. I had a sneaking suspicion I'd need high level dinos to lay eggs. So much for trying to get away with low level egg machines - hahaha! :steamsad:

I'm trying not to use mods, as I'm trying to utilise all the dinos for their purpose and 'doing the hard yards', so to speak.

Okay, guess I'll need to get a few groups going - and expand the area I was going to use for my base. A lot. :steammocking:
