How to add custom paint jobs and artwork.

So I've seen screen shots of people's games where they've been able to add pictures and custom artwork to things like canvas and billboards. And I've seen people with custom "downloaded" paint skins on their Dino's (this one dude had a rad American flag paint job on his argent). How about a tutorial on how this is done. Would love to adorn the walls of my base with custom art work.
