It will, after reading the dossiers again, most likely be ground dwelling but - if you believe the fluff - will make jumping/gliding attacks on humans, especially if not alone. My guess is it will act sort of like a winged Compy - receiving some sort of bonus in groups and attacking larger targets. Personally I tend to have at least a dilo (preferably a raptor, saber or wolf if I have one) with me as protection when gathering. I've seldom ran into bugs chopping wood, had more issues with compys than bugs, but a decent dilo is capable of dealing with a pack of them.
I don't know how you do your daily gathering, but I suggest getting into the habit of taking an escort with you.
If you're talking about Archaeopteryx (which is depicted flying through trees in the dossier, unlike the Microraptor), apparently it will run/fly away from humans and its temperament is 'Fearful' so I doubt it will aggro you.
Also this is not supposed to be safe. Danger around every... rock....
