Silica pearls - how to get?
As the title says. I've been stuck in progression for some time now, playing solo / with a few friends on a private server. As far as i know the only real way to get them is underwater, but there's no possible way for me to get there due to 5-6 high level sharks alway appearing. Even if i were to bring multiple low-level sharks, i'd just lose as friendly fire from mine would kill each other.

I've tried going to the shallow waters in the southwest part of the frozen biome, and i was happy to find pearls. I was less happy when a low level sabertooth killed my pteranodon and a higher lvl raptor killed me after.

In short, the only viable means of getting these pearls seems to be killing hundreds of trilobytes, or establishing a proper base at the one location above water where they spawn. But even then, i only found a few when i went there, and building electronics takes hundreds. For a resource that's required so much for any kind of progression, it seems rather silly that the only way to get it in decent numbers is suicide.

Tame a high level Dino, take it over on neutral. Issue Fixed.

Or tame some tougher sharks for underwater.

Or get a high speed Icthyosaurus to outrun the sharks.

Or tame an Argentavis for up north.

Or take a large land-based carnivore up north.

There are many viable solutions.

The best way I've found is to take a Ichthy (mid to high lvl) or a speedy Megalodon and go to the underground caves for pearls. They are usually guarded by Plesies and Mosas, but an Ichthy can out run them pretty easy, and they (Plesies/Mosas) can't fit in the caves so it's not really a problem.

If you really don't want to go into deep water...

Go up to the north East , to the line of the snow bio, then SCOUT out the area and kill the few dinos around there with your Ptera using the 'C' attack before landing on the little almost-an-island jumping off grabbing the pearls, it's best to do this in the day light, you get plenty of vision.

Stay nearish your bird though just in case when you dive for the pearls but keep alert. It's important do a few high and low sweeps before landing to make sure it's all clear.

It's worth taming a high level Ptera as it's really easy and fast and only requires Dodo kibble. boost it's attack to around 300% and HP to at least 1K, and 1K stamina it still takes 3 or 4 hits to kill anything decent but there are rarely that many dinos to kill in the area.

So basicly, Scout out, kill everything first land and on the little island-ish thing, dinos tend not to go through water.

What level are you and your friends? As other posters have suggested, just bring decent protection dinos with you. If your dinos are really too weak to kill sabers, do you have flak and swords you can use to kill dinos with? Curious how you spent your player points as well.

Hell... worst case, make a raft and cram it full of plant x and wreck anything in sight.

Where do i find higher level animals? The ones i have found along the shores are all low level, and taming it out in the open waters is asking to be mobbed by a group of sharks.

As for bringing along dinos for protection up north: our base is in the south, walking animals that far is a pain in the ass. That's why i mentioned the option there is building a new base there andleavin animals there.

I found a map online showing all the cave locations with exact coordinates in Google. Then I used a GPS that I got in an air drop (thanks Ark!) and parked my raft at the south at 90.3 by 71.3. I built up oxygen to 300 and went diving and found it just barely. 320 works better. Since then I just zoom down on my Ichthy (sp?). Out to my raft and down to the cave, it's fast to get pearls, oil and crystals. Nothing bad lives in the cave. FYI I don't rescommend putting points into oxygen, just get an Ichthy, far better.

Who said anything about walking dinos up north? Build a raft, make it big enough to hold a dino (no paracer, bronto, quetz, or anything with a platform. they dont play well with rafts) and sail your dino there. Murder everything, collect the pearls, sail home.

Dinos can spawn at any level wherever they would normally spawn, so just shop around a bit. Before my server wiped my favorite all purpose dino was a pretty high level argentavis (she was 100 when I popped my first tranq in her). Now, this was before the stat 'nerf', but she had 5k health, 3k stamina, 1k weight, 550% damage, and 130% speed. I would fly in, eat everything, land, harvest, and fly off to the next resource point. Quick and easy.

Depending on which route you choose to take (diving or snow biome) you will probably need the correct outfits though. Fur and or Scuba gear makes it all MUCH easier. If you don't have access to fur for the snow biome though, you can get around that a bit by putting a fireplace on your new dino barge-raft.

go to the northern area where its white, then og to the southern area of that white tundra where the cave is located. in the area right where the north tundra and the not tundra connect theres some water. I do my pearl mining there as many spawn close to shore so it's safer. Use your hand :p i kept trying to use a pick or something.

all i use is a argent with a little bit of weight when I do my pearl gathering :)
