I usually just stuff my standing / wall torches, campfires, refining forges I have in my base full of wood, light them and then log out for the day. Upon login I check said places and usually have quite a lot of charoal at my disposal.
Key in this is really doing it consistently. And yes, farming wood is a pain and also necessary.
My tribe has 6 set up that we fill up most nights before logging off when we are low on charcoal. The more you use the more you will have to use the next day. With 6 we make 7200 charcoal at a time it's around a 5h burn time for all of it and you only need wood to burn
Industrial forge is ok if you have one to fill and leave it for 2hs you can do 5900 charcoal with 7 gas . But my tribe just use it for metal. And making a ton of gas quick for our bases
Edit. Don't do standing torch as wood burns for a longer time in them if you want it soon. 100 stack of wood has a 11h+ burn time
This is a good plan and if you do not want to wait for it, load them all up before you go to bed. Wake up to your presents!
Once you get mid lvl and unlock guns or get that long rifle and bullets for it and tanq darts unlocked it gets to be a major resource that makes taming easier.
Let alone if you want to later start using guns for stuff later other then taming.
I would hope by the time someone is level 85 they would have figured out how to mass produce charcol so I'm going to assume OP is well below level 85.
Just make about 12 campfires, load them up with wood, light the first and go do something else for 3 hours. When you come back you'll have enough charcol for 300 bullets.
