This is what you want. This is a setting in your options menu, then you never have to see the global chat again. You can still use the \ key to use the auto-hide function just in case you want to see what's going on in global chat.
I would love to randomly discover a tribe and speak with them, not see them on chat all the time.
1) it doesn't ruin the experience
2) we are NOT cavemen, this is NOT earth, i'd have thought the ginat floating obelisks would have given that away, or creatures that lived literally millions of years apart suddenly living at the same time. However it seems i literally have to tell you This. Is. Not. Earth. We. Are. Not. Cavemen.
3) actually it makes interactions easier, and it makes trading (don't worry, that's something you'll be doing in time) so much easier, seeing as people can advertise/search for stuff without getting killed by the first person they approach.
I wish people would stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ complaining about game features...
Last night my tribe got told we were "stealing dinos" by claiming them when the claim timer was up... By someone who's been seen by multiple people stealing eggs, but that's a rant for another time.
For example, thanks to chat:
I know who the biggest tribes on the map are
I know which location they are in, what they are doing now
I can just ask to be in a huge tribe on the global map and I will get in (just have for test)
This removes the need for:
Actual in game conversation
Strategic Building
Real exploration of the island
Tribal Diplomacy
Any real threat from other players (If I got attacked I will just tell everybody and get retribution from bigger fish)
So what you have is a bunch of huge tribes that just talk on chat as they alreeady have huge castles with nothing to do but kiss ass and not go to war. It's just boring and pointless!
I wasn't being a ♥♥♥♥, i was debating you.
Now, respond to my points, or consider the fact that i've won. I can reply to all of your points easily.
-actual in game conversation still VERY much happens, you just don't hear it because you're never close enough, plus tribes will be in TS, or in a skype group call.
-strategic building, yeah, you try logging off in a thatch hut and see just what happens to you.
-real exploration of the island, sure, you go tame a direwolf/rex/giga/argent on the southern shores only, come back to me once you've done it. Exploration is a later game thing, and seeing as you've got a private profile i can only assume you have sub 10 hrs in game, and have NO right to complain about a feature.
-tribal diplomacy, yeah, it's not like the chat isn't used to arrange trades/rally other tribes/generally make yourself known, which in turn makes you less likely to be raided
-yep, you got me, no one EVER raids on pvp, especially not the alpha tribes. NEVER ever happens. /s
It does NOT remove the threat from other tribes, it only means if you're a lil baby when you DO get raided, you can cry in global and ask for help getting revenge. That is ALL it means, which also ties into how the chat encourages diplomacy.
[edit: fixed typo]
OP, i apologise for my aggresion towards you.
Thanks for this, I disabled the 'Chat' feature in the settings but it still pops up when somebody says something for some reason. When I hit the '\' key it says 'auto chat disabled' but it still pops up. Is there a way to completely disable it?
Figured this might be the case ^^ Maybe i'm after some kind of RP server, do you know if any of them exist or has anybody shown interest in such? I may make one..
Ha, more than likely. I really like the idea of PvP with strangers but just seeing people from one side of the island talk to others on the other side publicly just seems weird as they shouldn't know eachother really. They build relationships via chat and then wont attack in game, which seems like metagaming to me and thus takes away the immersion of a tribal simulator.
That's ok, i'm sorry too. I'm angry because I want to get into the game so bad but my immersion is being hit hard by this chat box. Such a small thing really took away the experience for me.
