What is the deal with the Gigantopithecus?
So... I suddenly have tons of these guys all over the place. Earlier today two of them managed to kill about half of my dinos. It was night time, so I couldn't see exactly what happened, but they killed my higher level Sarco, Trike, Pachy and several Dilos. I can't figure out how that could have happened, because I keep my dinos on Neutral and I thought that the Ape guys remained pretty passive as long as you don't invade their space. I'm not sure how a dino in Neutral could have invaded their space.... but I wasn't very happy about the whole thing.

They agro anything thats gets to close to them, Even if it walks into your dino.

they aggro anything that touches them. you can be close and be fine...but they also have a tendancy to walk into you and your dinos...adn then agroo.
My suggestion is to build a pen, it'll prevent them from walking into your dinos. And prevent predators from attacking them.

Yep....doing that now.

... and having your animals on neutral means when one is attacked they all join in.

Fence 'em in and set passive bud. Only way. Sorry for your loss(es). :steamsad:

No, neutral means they will defend themselves, and not interfere with other combat.. If they trigger to join a fight another of your tames had, they're on attack your target. Why does everyone keep getting that wrong?

Unfortunately it is the case that they all attack when one is attacked while set on Neutral. I make a point of keeping all of mine on Neutral and I've seen this behavior on numerous occasions.

No, "attack my target" means they attack the moment you hit something.
Neutral means they attack something that hits you. Or any other friendly target. Or themselves.

You have that one a little off Iron. I think what is throwing you is that if you (or one of your dinos) attacks something while the rest of your animals are on neutral, they do nothing.

However, the moment that you or one of your tames is attacked and takes damage, then all of your neutral animals will join in.

It's easy to miss the distinction, as usually damage goes both ways unless you one hit your target or it flees.

:steamhappy:Well, it's not the only way Sista. I prefer to let my animals roam the paddock freely, and set them on neutral. Or aggressive if I need my privacy.

Of course, this means that the habitat I set up out on Dead Island was quite exciting for awhile... until I forced the local carnivors to give up.

LOL, don't take this post too seriously. It's a video series I'm doing for my channel. Still, surprisingly, I found a way to make it work. Here's a link to the 6 video playlist in question if you're interested or feel like a chuckle. The actual annexing of Dead Island occurs in episodes 3, 4, and 5.

On PvP that is a GREAT way to lose all your dinos to a raider that may be killed if all the dinos were able to defend themselves. Also, a way to make them attack the raider if they don't want to kill the dinos to reveal who they are.

Also not a good idea to let them roam, yeah it looks cool...but they could glitch out of the fence. At least on neutral they are okay but on aggressive they may find a way to get out. This is on a multiplayer server, SP it is alright to do, I believe.
