On the Xbox/PS4 it's easier because they can fine tune how the game looks in split screen mode for good performance but because everyone's got a different computer that becomes a lot harder to do.. the finetuning for good performance. It becomes a feature that's hard to implement in a way that'll satisfy people without unnecessary slowdown.
At the very least, *IF* it did happen, it wouldn't happen until release or later.
Besides that, the Split screen players are only "Guest players" from what I read, which likely maens like other guest player games that the stats for them aren't saved, making it better just to have two copies to begin with for real progression.
I know that split-screen will be only at or after release though.
Well I played the game on Xbox One, and the settings are tuned WAAAYY down, so I was really surprised when I heard it was coming to Xbox and haven't heard anything about PC. I personally would take a hit to the graphics if I could play side by side with my girlfriend, and sure I could take the better route and get two copies but that would require getting another PC that can run this game (which is not cheap). Hopefully the devs are cool and are fair to each platform.
