So my buddy and I were having an argument over Stimberries last night... (please read and comment)
His stance: "If you use stimberries and/or stimulant to tame unconscious dinos it will inscrease their hunger and thus make it easier and quicker to "speed tame" dinosaurs. Trust me. I'm 100% correct. I find things most people don't know. When I play games I tend to find strategies that a lot of people don't find."

My stance: "Stimberries and stimulant only dehydrates and wakes up players/dinos, not increase hunger. If you use them on an unconscious dino it's just going to wake him up if you use them. Never use them on an unconscious dino." I even knocked out a trike and had him watch. I fed the trike 10 stims then he or my other buddy force fed the trike another 10 for a total of 20 and it did nothing but make his torpidity go from 427 to the low 300's super quick.

Is there something I'm missing here? I've played for over 250 hours (my friend has never reached level 25...) and I watch SL1PG8R (Nailed it! Aced it! Can't be stopped!) and that guy has never used stims to tame a dino. The official wiki pages for stimberries[ark.gamepedia.com] and stimulants[ark.gamepedia.com] even back me up here. Please comment so I know I'm not wrong.

A long time ago, there was a lot of talk about stims speeding up the tame. I was quite new to the game and didn't bother about it so i don't remember if it ever was useful or not. But right now, it doesn't decrease hunger so it's useless for taming.

Havent played in a couple months but this was something that we always did. Stims didnt lower hunger, narco did. you are only using the stims to to make "room" on the torpor so you can feed him more narco to lower is hunger. 10 stims 10 narcos 10 stims 10 narcos etc; he eats faster.

It will lower thier food but also lower thier torpor. So yeah.....

Back in the day (around june-august) there was this Hard believe that stimberries did help with increasing hunger.

This was however FULLY debunked by the end of august.
It only APPEARS to go down faster without actually draining any faster.

Stimberries have in fact NEVER helped with the hunger. Only wakes them up faster.
Short answer he isn't being nearly as original as he thinks, nor is this some big secret.

Here's what happens. Stim berries lower the torpor, which allows the feeding of more narco, Eating narco causes hunger to drop a little.

So yes technically it WILL speed up a tame HOWEVER it is obscenely resource intensive as it will require 4-5 time (if not more) the amount of narco you would normally use Plus a large amount of Stim. (Don't use berries for either because you'll just waste a lot of time and potentially waste your taming bonus on eating berries)

Functionally you can speed it up but it won't actually be sped up all that much and the resource requirement for a negligible gain is prohibitive. So you can tell him he's sort of right but it's also a wasteful and kinda dumb approach well tested before he even thought of it.

narcotics always lowered their food. the only way to feed more narcotic when they are at full torpor is to give them stim to lower the torpor faster. its like you guys didnt read my post.

You are correct, it's always worked like this. The stim junkies were half correct.

My nephew saw a video of some guy thinking the same thing your friend does, and I had actually never heard of it, so we tested it on a parasaur and all it did was make the dino wake up faster. There's no way to "cheat" through the taming process.

Doesn't force feeding a dino something besides narco make it's TE go down?

Anyway, this is not correct. On tamed dinos it makes hunger go down fast, but I'm 99% sure it doesn't work on wild dinos. It just makes them wake up faster, which makes you waste narco you could've used for something else.

Ok

NEVER has this worked.

Devs stated right from the start that this does NOT work.

The hunger is done via timer per tick.

You think it gets hungrier faster when feeding it berries BUT it actually isn't. The reason it looks faster is that if you watch the hunger in the first place it drops say 0.3 at a time for example... It does this at 0.3 per second... when feeding it berries it drops by 0.1 a time but does this at 0.33 seconds. So you see the refresh rate speed up of its hunger but it still takes 1 second per 0.3.

This has been discussed 1000's of times

I used this method a lot around June-august because of a friend on an Official server told me to do so. It did help with the time, but thats only because you're using the Stim to make more room for Narco, and only do it if you have an overabundance of supplies and REALLY want to shave off another 30 mins from your tame. Its useless but I had lots of supplies back then so it didnt really matter.

No, forcefeeding does NOT make the TE go down, only bites the dino takes. I've dropped many dinos that were extremely low HP, threw raw meat on them and forced them to get HP higher... They came out perfect tames as well.

It made no difference to the time.

Its hunger is done per tick.

So what is it guys? I'm getting 50-50 on what is right and what is wrong here.
Iriath Zhul Feb 3, 2016 @ 11:45am
I thought this came from a misconception since stimberries *would* reduce the hunger value before the taming had started (e.g., right after you knock out the dino but before it's hungry). Which is nice if you're impatient for 20 seconds but now that will reduce the TE so it's not worth it.
