What tames can help me avoid Thylacoleo dismounting?
So basically I would like to actually visit the redwoods, except in my 200ish hours on the island, thylacoleo successfully made it an ongoing nightmare, what dinos can I use to not be mauled against my will?

PS: can they snatch me off of a rex's back?

Safe on a Megatherium

A full ghillie armor is probably your best bet.

Otherwise I don't recall Thylaco dismounting me while riding a bronto or Quetz in the Red Woods (they'll try dismounting you when riding a wyvern).

Are you positive? What about a rex though?

Stego has that handy "No Dismount" thing going on for it since the TLC

I got ripped off my Tek Quetz this evening by a neighbourhood Thyla. I think i was ripped of my Blood Wyvern aswell by them haha.

I find easiest thing is just to go quickly around the big trees and not stop to smell the roses.

I would reckon Stego, but i never tried it personally so it's not guaranteed.

Stego protects you from being dismounted, just beware it doesn't prevent stun, rather you just get stuck on the back of your mount.

Doesn´t matter how fast you go they always get you. They have probably learned their flying roundhousekick from Chuck Norris himself..No escape..

I dont think there is anyway. Just make sure what ever dino you have can kill a thyla quick. Have armor so you can endure its pounding. I have a Baryonyx with 900% plus melee and chest armor with 300%. My baryonyx will always kill them before they kill me. Also a point blank shotgun blast to their abdomen helps a lot.

I don’t go near the redwood unless I’m flying over, or or if I’m riding through with a mount that can protect me if I’m pinned.

I have been dismounted by a Thylo while on a Rex. But I've never been dismounted by a Thylo while on a Paracer or Bronto Platform saddle. I've also been dismounted from a Spino by a Thylo. Only time I can remember surviving one of those attacks is when I was wearing Flak Armour, had a shield and used it to survive the attacks while my Spino killed the Thylo for me. I've made several treks to the Redwood mountain area through the redwoods on a Paracer with a forge and smithy to gather metal and I can't remember being bothered by a Thylo once. Made the same journey once with a Bronto and was safe too. Danger there is being overwhelmed by more than one Rex though. Then again, if you have enough tranq arrows, you can probably KO a Rex from your Paracers back safely, and then you have a good escort.
How about a dimo or archae? If you can't see any to shoot them down off the tree, maybe send a flying shoulder mount as bait to scout the area. Not done this myself, but I was flying thru the redwood with my argy and out of nowhere a thyla comes flying across my screen. Thought I had got hit, but it kept going. That's because it jumped on a wild dimo flying thru. I mean, if it works for wild dinos should work with tamed ones.

Carry a crossbow and a grappling hook, won't save you from the small heart attack when they jump you, but lets you escape quickly at least.
