Literally what i have been saying, and again when they come for the unofficial clusters next don't be surprised. I'm done with this game see you space cowboys.

I have made two previous threads on this topic now not relating to the shut down specifically but snail games as well not planning on giving a rundown in this thread you have a search bar and my user name so look for those threads fairly easy.

well you are all able minded individuals so do what you will with your money.

there has been no news on ASA this entire time lol let alone any gameplay and not even saying it to insult but if you really believe that snail will allow you to run that unofficial server that's not with nitrado after ASA fails to launch on time then thats all you my guy.

Are you even aware of snails obligation to give exclusive server rights to nitrado when they botch the launch date for ASA?

That exclusive server rights is for servers rented, not server runned on players own machines.

well then I would say good for you, but for the overwhelming majority of users runnning a player dedicated server costs too much money let alone the type of hardware to run and the constant upkeep of keeping a player dedicated server on 24/7 with the occasional refresh doesn't make sense for them. But good on you for being able to do this you should be good then if its player dedicated

They'll never be able to shut down unofficials, especially the ones running on privately owned hardware.

Even attempting to do so will only drive people away from officially supporting the game.

what a damn joke of a game.

1. This has been coming for official server players for a while. Expect the next weeks to months to have these surprised and angry threads. You know this and making multiple threads for a while now on this is silly.

2. You also had warnings as far back as 2017 that these sorts of things could occur. That's when over half the official servers before August 2017 were turned into the same save files system and the remainders turned into "Legacy" servers to make way for new servers. We saw the same fuming.

3. For 8 years the majority of the player base has played on the unofficial servers. Currently there are over 60,000+ unofficial servers compared with the 1800ish ones.

4. The "coming for your unofficial servers" does have a very very very remote chance to happen. It will ONLY happen if Ascended is delayed past October 31st. As discussed on other threads for weeks now, the August 1st SEC filing Snail games made showed that they've made an agreement with Nitrado that grants them 20% of Ascended's revenue when released in August and 100% exclusivity on -any- server hosting services (but not private player hosted) for the game as well as forgiving 1.3 million debt for server hosting from March to June that had remained unpaid, and a cash infusion of another 3 million.

However, if it doesnt launch in by October 31st, Snail-Wildcard agrees to give sole licensing for -any- server hosting for Ark Survivor Evolved as well AND 20% of Ark Survivor Evolved revenues going forward from there. That would removed 90% or more of the current 60,000+ unofficial servers hosted through other companies like Host Havoc etc unless those companies made some sort of agreement with Nitrado to thwart that(likely with the costs passed along to the renter.... but this is all an assumption, many companies would just shutter those unofficial servers and be done with it).

Again that Post October 31st delay scenario as well exempts servers privately run by players too.

All in all, the likelihood of it occurring is pretty small to none because the PR from such a fiasco would not only be extremely bad for Snail-Wildcard but it would also be very bad for Nitrado too.

Also as has been discussed, Ascended is releasing in early access on Steam only and with only the Island map, since Early Access lets a game be as unfinished as it wishes to practically, there's no reason for them to delay it as they could literally throw out a barren map filled with dodo's and be done with it to satisfy the agreement. While the 2015 release of ark back in the day wasnt that barren, it was extremely limited then(didnt get fur and features on creatures for example a couple of months after.

-------

So while your frustrations with the "writing has been on the wall for a long time" official servers played by a minority of folks, keep in mind too that devs intentionally do not interact on this forum in this capacity and you're just ranting about it all to other players(something else we've known for many many years.).

Well aware of the devs not posting infact I am so much aware that I made a thread in their survivetheark forums relaying exactly the contents of previous threads that rather than responding I had my threads deleted by the devs and two warnings though not surprised you would assume otherwise given your post history on goading people but i'll humor you and your assumptions.

lets assume that a decent amount of people from 60,000 thousand players about 1,200ish have the hardware to run player dedicated servers you are looking at hardware upkeep around the clock unpaid don't even get started on the upkeep that would require the hands of a small dedicated team. that narrows the number even smaller from that 1,200 pool.

now please be realistic on how many people have acess to server grade hardware to host a hundred players and a proper admin team around the clock.

for you to say that players should have expected this to be on the wall is as childish as is saying people should have expected overwatch to be shut down and overwatch 2 to take its place, its non-sense even on the same level as having people buy modern warfare 2 skins even when the devs say that those skins will not transfer to modern warfare 3. A waste of money and time.

charging players an extra 40 dollars and more for the subsequent re-release of dlc is hilarious but at this point if they aren't able to price gouge their user base then they already lose. Don't try to justify the price when this should have been a free upgrade.

Theres more substance to this conversation to be had though only who even bother to rather than an attempt to shut it down with cookie cutter.

Lol sorry but you are being a complete idiot intentionally... Its one thing (and perfectly expected eventually) for official servers to be taken down. They have no reason to ever come for unofficial servers.

Yall are so damn whiny for buying a game in 2015, milking its servers for almost a decade, and then having to play on unofficial servers after... like get over it.

you would be the same dumb homonculus to go ahead in the same breath say lets charge .20 cents a download to any dev who players downloads a game on our game engine and buy all the ark dlc agan.(the unity game engine issue)

instead of adding any substance to the conversation you bring your ignorance and your idiocy with you, so instead i'm going to add some substance to this conversation rather than it being about just how dumb you really are.

you are ignoring how this publisher cheats in their own IP forcing bans on people who raid them search up TEA tribe or quite lterally any ark video made in the past month?

it speaks VOLUMES how a publisher goes ahead and bans its own player base in their own IP and not only that goes ahead and for quite literally every dlc CAME OUT LATE AND DELAYED. I mean come on a simple search or even going back to previous threads.

heres a link to two videos to catch you up to speed.

if you had the time to just browse the threads on ark to spout nonsense then you can at the very least inform yourself

Despite its name, dedicated Ark servers do not need a dedicated server to run them.

For example, when my family first started playing Ark (2017) we used an i7-6700k, 32 GB of RAM, RTX 2070 Super GPU to both run about 5 maps simultaneously and the Ark client. Over time, it could only run about the 3 maps simultaneously, no doubt a function of the number of players and the amount of data it needed to track.

Years later, another player offered to do the hosting, so I transferred the server the files to him. He had obtained an old "real" server type machine when the company he works for replaced it.

Once no one was playing Ark anymore except he and me, he moved the server files to a 16 GB laptop that was not used to play the client, so no GPU needed. He played his client on a full bore gaming PC, and gave me remote access to control his laptop. I've known him in real life since he was 16 years old and he now has kids in college. He's like a son to me and I'm like a Mom to him.

Once he tired of playing Ark, I asked him to return to server files to me, which he did.

Just some data points on what is needed to run an Ark server.

The most important ones are that odds are if you can play Ark in single mode, you can use the same PC to run a dedicated server.

Those of you have only played a client using someone else's server might have more difficulty running a server, especially if the map is heavily built up, in which case you probably need more RAM or disk space (and if you are running either the client or the server on an HDD rather than SSD, expect some performance issues).

These are things that dedicated servers have had to deal with for years, but we've managed, with nothing really fancy in the way of hardware.

Are people even playing official? Ark without mods is a sad experience

I understand why they host official servers however it's a cost to them.

Unofficial servers do not cost them any money and in fact without them the game would be dead so your next crystal ball prediction is completely wrong largely because you didn't steal that one from official Ark news and you have no basic concept of how commerce works.
