BTW: Rexes and Gigas don't exist at aberration.
Sadly, Spinos can't be brought to the overseer on Island, since they don't fit into the cave-entrance. (hm. CAN you free cryopttedt creatures in the cave, before you teleport? I don't believe so. I know, you can't at the overseer directly, at least, but afaik, you teleport to the oversser at the end of the lava-cave. You don't just go through another entrance.)
Rexes and/or spinos are a must-have against bosses. (at the side of a group of allos (at least 2) or a Yutyrannus.) Gigas can't be brought to the overseer, two, if you can't free potted creatures in the cave.
And I suppose, Gigas are damn dangerous against bosses, because of its rage.
Every creature on Island has a purpose. Even the Meganeura, although the only purpose of them is to go on the nervs of players... but it IS a purpose.
Giga: is absolutely the best for raw damage, but there's a lot of places you can't got and numerous things you can't do with a Giga as it would kill any challenge or grind.
Rex: it's a plain old workhorse Dino. It can be used for boss fights and the tek cave, and is basically the staple dini
Spino: by far, my favourite of the three. Has 2 modes. Quadripedal mode and bipedal. When in bipedal, you attack faster, do more damage, and have a far superior turning radius. Both modes have hydration boost when wet which gives you an edge in a 1v1 versus a Rex, but won't help at all when it comes to a Giga. The spino is vulnerable to electrocution though, so it's no longer my go to for surface water ventures on The Island.
The spino has a drawback in that it doesn't actually fit in the tek cave, for some weird reason
Since the debut of cryopods, we have been able to unpod Gigas and other creatures inside the Tek Cave, before the final teleport. The standard procedure on Official is to take on Giga to clear the way, and then Rexes for the final fight.
Yes, I would agree, Gigas are the best for raw damage by far. However, Rexes actually tend to have much more health (due to the Giga health nerf), making groups of them better for a longer, slower fight. A good saddle can help with this, but those are rare, and often very expensive. I mostly use Gigas for meat hunting, Titano fights, Alpha Killing, and Giga fights, and that's about it. In addition, Gigas are typically much more difficult to replace than a Rex or Spino.
(please note I typically play on Official PvE, and this is all based upon the supermutant versions of everything we have, lol)
For Rexes, the damage is much lower than the Giga, but the health is higher. On Official, I have Rexes that reach over 2K damage, and 100K health once leveled. (1360 and 34K bases) In my mind, they're the perfect boss creature, as they have more health than the spino, and saddle blueprints are easier to find. (easier being very relative) The spino when ridden, at the same melee, technically puts out more damage, due to better DPS, but I find this to be almost unnoticeable. In addition, on the Spino, you sit very low to the ground, giving things like Purlovia and easy target. I have known them to somehow get me even on Rexes (Ice Cave on The Island), but Spinos are just a deathtrap.
I like Spinos as a very useful all-round utility mount. They're fast, they're powerful, if you get a couple of event colors, or Abberant ones, they look frickin' cool. For me, they don't substitute for the Rex in terms of hard damage, but they are vastly more mobile, and fun to use.
I haven't played Official in about a month, as Crystal Isles has given me serious technical issues, but when I was last on, you could still unpod in the cave.
Cool, gotcha. :)
They have slow animations. But I doubt, they're THAT slow... I think, they just cover more ground per step... An Allo is faster, however.
