Killing bugs (insects)

Whenever I go out to hunt some dinosaurs, I find myself being a attached by bugs. I can kill them easily by looking directly up and spamming attacks, but when they gang up on me, there are usually 5 or more. I'm around level 25, but I started no where near a snowy biome, so I am unable to get pelt-->bug repellent. I have lots of dilos, but they don't help me with flying bugs. Is there any other way to deal with these bugs?

Dimorphodon for starters. Giant Bullfrogs are even better, since they process them into Cementing Paste.

More sensible options include the Bow, which you should have by now anyway. It's one of the mainstay weapons of any ARK player. You should also be able to run faster than bugs by now, making killing them with a bow trivial. You could also KO and tame a Raptor or Terrorbird, or virtually any other predator.

More ridiculous options include the Shotgun, coming up in a couple of levels. It's a little expensive at first, but a single buckshot can clear a swarm.

Thanks, I will try using a bow on them. Shotgun seems pretty legit.

Any insect, spear or pike, constantly backing up and jabbing. Don't stay stationary as then they start to circle and are a bastard to hit. Back up and jab, a good pike will drop 3-4 with a single swing, but even a standard spear will make short work of them.

Shotgun is epic. It's just a little expensive to keep loaded, unless you're either very established or playing a high resource server.

Try crouching and stabbing up with your spears/pike. Crouching will get you below their attacks.

You'll be very glad for those bug swarms someday, they are worth their weight in gold... well, cementing paste.

You can also sprint faster than them, making even a Slingshot a viable weapon.
