AMD Optimization
Assuming the game doesn't shut down due to the legal troubles, I'm wondering if this is ever going to happen.

I've been pretty loayal to ARK since it first announced early access and I have to say, I've seen a lot of tweaks and fixes to make the game run better for Nvidia clients but little to nothing for AMD clients. I'd rally like to play this game at a setting other than medium and given that my PC can play every game I throw at it on max or near max settings, it's pretty disappointing that at medium settings, I barely maintain 30 FPS.

I have a I7 4,4ghz 16gig ram 980TI and SSD and I am only getting 30-50gps on med. Its not just AMD. The game is still a long way from being done. Its in testing still and will be for a long time.
Korvun Mar 26, 2016 @ 11:27pm
Both of the people I play withrun Nvidia and average 50-60 on high settings. I know it's a long way from done, but nearly every nvidia user I've spoken to say it runs significantly better.

Edit: And 30-50 is a lot better than 10-30 that I'm getting.

My system is a full AMD... CPU 8350 and GPU R9 390X. Some days i get 60 - 70 fps others i get 30 - 40 fps. My mate has a I7 and GTX 980ti (x2 sli) and he gets the same as me. So it's not just AMD it's the same for everyone.

It's kind of easy to say when you two have the best C/GPUs on the market. At least your games are playable. If I were the only one to notice this I guess I could see your point, but sadly I'm not.

It's also kind of easy for you to overstate everything by saying they have nvidia and you have amd without giving any specifics. You know what? I got an AMD card and I run the game better than my friend who has nvidia. See what I did there?

actually the AMD optimisation was way better than the one for nvidia since ark already runs on xbox and was optimised for that console already as much as possible at the moment. (consoles mostly use amd hardware, you know?) all this work and optimisation had an impact on pc too. i'm using amd video cards for years now and i'm playing the game currently on high with at least 35fps anywhere with a R9 270X. the game isn't better optimized for nvidia, that's just not true. It works just equal on any gpu.

What hardware are you using? I think the problem is your gpu that may be too weak

Yeah, I see what you did there. However, I didn't overstate anything. A quick search for AMD optimization on these forums will tell you as much.

I'm using an AMD FX 8350 4.0 and an AMD Radeon HD 7900. 12gb of memory and it's being run from an SSD. The game's suggested settings cranked everything up to ultra, which was obviously unplayable so I slowly turned everything down to where it was playable, that being around the medium settings with some other tweaks like low shadows etc.

In that case, you're getting exceptional performance given the aged obsolete graphics hardware in use.
Korvun Mar 27, 2016 @ 3:59pm
A little aged, maybe, but most certainly not obsolete.

None of the 7900 series cards are anywhere close to being powerful enough for epic settings at 1080p in this game. If the people with Nvidia cards you spoke to are getting 50-60 fps at 1080p with high settings then they definitely have much more powerful cards than you. That has nothing to do with optimization. The most powerful cards in the 7900 series are only around half as powerful as a 980TI. Most mid range cards now are at least 50% more powerful than them.

Here are my specs. I run all settings low and textures on high and have 20-30 fps with lag in big bases but that is expected. this laptop sucks lol but yeah I dont think its too bad compared to how it played months ago

Given that your GPU is five years old and that it has no DX12 compatibility? Even without ARK having DX12 as of yet, yes, overall it is obsolete.

you have a HD 7900, right?
Release dates:
Radeon HD 7950 31. Jan. 2012
Radeon HD 7950 Boost Edition 14. Aug. 2012
Radeon HD 7970 22. Dez. 2011
Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 22. Jun. 2012
Radeon HD 7990 1. Mai 2013

so your card is 4 years old now? just for your informations usually people replace their hardware for gaming every 3-5 years^^

funny thing is your laptop doesn't even reach minimum specs (no 2.0ghz, you play below the minimum). Still you get a good amount of fps and it seems you are having a lot of fun. That's really nice

Indeed, both this user and OP are getting relatively stellar performance for the given hardware used. Kind of nullifies the "woe is me for using AMD" argument, wouldn't you say?
