Also if they're using modded content and the time out is due to a mod mismatch, and you've done the update from a mod, same thing applies: server needs to update.
If you are playing on your "friend's world" it is either:
1. An unofficial dedicated server
OR
2. An unofficial non dedicated server.
That's the system.
Stop spamming and piggy backing on other people's threads with this. Its not the same issue as the OP. Don't be silly.
1. Chances are that there is something your friend needs to do with their computer and not yours. This should be especially true of you attempt to join official dedicated and unofficial dedicated servers and do not encounter this issue.
Timeouts when attempting to join a server are a symptom. There are many different causes of it but almost all except a small number of the reasons are due to the server/computer that you're attempting to join.
2. We often recommend for people to not play non dedicated server iterations. This is because they're prone to a myriad of issues. Instead your friend may be better off make a dedicated server version BUT just only running it from his computer when the two of you plan to play together. OR since there are 70,000+ unofficial servers out there, there's a good chance you and your friend can find a suitable server that matches you both to play on and not worry on such challenges.
