Why no Dino Armor?

Yes I know there is mods but I am kinda surprised that Ark itself hasn't implemented Dino armor. I was looking at Pimp my Dino and saw a bunch of really nice armor on dinos and asked myself why didn't ark itself implement it.

Think about it. You get stranded on an island with some dinos and somehow tame one. or hell even a bunch of them. Sure to begin with it might not seem like something you would do but you have been on this island long enough to build a literal house made of metal with a bunch of walls around it and have started working on breeding the dinos you have tamed. Logical step would be well lets make my dino a bit better. I could take some of this metal and form it into some nice plates to go on it.

Or even when crafting the saddle you look at it and go you know I made a saddle but I got this extra leather I could make it a cap and leg guards to protect it while I am at it.

So why haven't they added it as an actual Feature?

Well there is armour in the saddle but I guess making nice looking dino armour is a low priority thing, if ever.

I'm thinking it's a balance thing. If they add armour then they need to reduce the armor stat given by the saddle to compensate for the increase. Otherwise dinos need to do more damage 'cuz a dino with saddle can win against dinos of higher level.

Secondly, armor on mounts give it extra weight, not really a problem with the larger dinos but more problematic with smaller ones. And while just adding a cap and some leg guards might seem innocent it will disrupt the natural behavious of the beast.This is also true for real life, you didn't really want to put too much protection on the horsies, it was enough that their riders were wearing full plate, for their own good.

Remeber that we still dont have all Tiers... Right now we can see that in Tek Tier there will be laser helmet for Giga... Maybe they will give ass some high tech armors for Prime Dinos, like Bionic Rex skin on xbox...

Not for all - Only for Prime dinos like Giga, Rex, Arg, Spino, maybe Bronto and Comming Titanosaur...

Saddles should not give armor, or very little. Saddle and armor should be two separate things. I really hope they will add armor for all the dinos in the future or I will be very disappointed (I already am, but whatevs...).

The devs have answered in a digest recently that the reason why they are not doing armor is because it would cost them too many resources to make armors.
It is possible though that after release they do it or that they work with a modder and implement a mod into the game (what i would do if I were them).

Just to add my 2c worth...

A saddle would protect the area that it covers with some small armour value so it's appropriate to have this reflected as a stat boost as it is. The weight is also a consideration, small for the heavy lifters (Trike, Rex, Argent etc), no so much for the smaller ones (Pachy, Ptera).

But yeah, there has been talk about eventually adding some dino armour in the future. Give it time and see what happens. Until then chck out the modders, there's plenty there to paruse.

they should have it so as you get a better quality saddle- its appearance changes to have more armour over the dino. so primitive is the usual, ramshackle has some more "protection" over the dino etc with the top saddles being nearly full coverage and protection- makes more sense with the unrealistic current crafting costs too :)

That actually would be cool. So not only would they have higher armor but also would look different.

I might agree with some of the smaller lighter dinos or even some of the dinos that arn't so much battle mounts not getting armor but those bigger or more fighting focused dinos should get it.

Dilos and Dodos could get Cloth armor
Sabers, Dire wolves, Dire Bears, Argents, and Raptors should get Leather
Some of the medium dinos like the carno could get chitin
the big alpha predators and the platform mounts should get Leather and Metal armor I mean if they can carry a giant metal Platform they can carry a bit of metal barding.
and of coarse the Key Dinos of ark get Tek Gear. Namely the Rex, Giga, Titan, and if they add more Key Dinos they should get it to.
