ARK Ram usage with mods is waaaaaaaay too high...
Hey guys, I was just wondering if there was any ways of reducing the amount of ram need for ARK with mods? ATM I have like maybe 10 mods and the game takes up like almost 10gb of ram. Anyone can tell me why mods use so much ram?

Thanks! Hope this is readable.

start the game in low memory mode maybe?

It really depends on which mod you are using. Can you list the ones on your server?

I run 18 mods with "The Center" map and server ram usage last I checked (2 days ago) was 4.3Gb.

Basically I solved the issue by removing Ark Advance and it sped up start up time by enough. I also noticed that when starting single-player (single player is what I have been talking about btw.) it took up like 7gb of ram (with Ark Advance) and then dropped down to like 2-3gb. I guess I solved my own problem although if someone could tell me why ark does this that would be great. Hope that made sense.

Unused RAM is wasted RAM...

The game is using 10Gb of RAM without any mods installed. The task manager only shows about 6 - 7 Gb, but it uses 10Gb. I don't know why.
So its not related to your mods.

Of course sp with mods can kill even the best pc out there :-D

You need a server .. lol

Cost so much to host my own and most servers don't have the mods I wanted. That's why I switch to sp.

The game will use up to 10GB RAM, that's what I've noticed. The more RAM you have, the more the game will use. In return, the less stutter/freezing while moving around areas and loading structures. I used to play with 5GB RAM (one of my memories was kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥, it was originally 8GB) and the game would go to 4GB used and cap my memory. Stutter and freezing followed. I upgraded to 16GB and now the game eats 9.5GB RAM. Mind you, that's playing on my own server hosted by a company with only 5 cosmetical mods. My mate who has 8GB RAM gets stutters and freezes as well, but I no longer have any.

It's a memory hogger alright.

Depends on settings to be honest, I spent a lot of time monitoring ram useage due to constant low memory warnings from window and it only seems to go up as development goes forward.

I struggled to play sp with 8gb of ram even on low memory ( 4gb my touche) it would use as much as 6gb in this mode with textures on high, lowering texrtures reduced ram useage but naturally it wasn't as pleasing to the eye.

Since upgrading to 16gb and an 8gb r9 390 (my other weak point before was my gtx 660) I can run the game on epic settings at around 30-40 fps how ever the game uses around 12gb of ram and 5gb of vram, dropping settings down to high preset it's using around 10.5 gb ram and 4gb vram.

This is default game without mods.

I believe this became an issue some time ago when people were moaning about long load times and it seems alot of the work was shifted from the cpu to the ram, decreasing load times but decreasing performance especially if you are running on a hdd.

Interesting. When I play no mods I use maybe 3 gbs but with 15+ mods it's now at almost 10. No biggie I'm just impatient and can't wait 5-10mins for sp to start haha.

Thanks

im running like 40+ mods on singleplayer and when loading into a map i watch taskmanager load what im assuming is the mods into the ram. it finally loads into the gameworld when it reaches about 8 gig of ram counted up over about 10 minutes

Holy necro.

Depends on the size of the mods.

As Vez said it depends on the size footprint of the mods. Some mods are only 30MB, while there are some that are 3GB or more, so how many matters very little whereas the size on disk of your mods folder is paramount. If they're all tiny, you could run 50+ mods with no issues, but if 10+ of those 50 are large mods that are 1GB or bigger...

Loading times depend on the size of the mods just as much the in-game memory usage ultimately does. Add a lot of big mods and loading times and RAM usage will skyrocket, particularly in SP where you're running both the server (2-4GB) and the client (4GB+ and much more with mods added) on the same machine.

I would think of 8GB usage as light. My system routinely uses ~5GB for each dedicated server instance (I run 3 in a cluster) and then 12-14GB for my client when I play via localhost, but I do run a pretty hefty amount of sizable mods and I have 32GB so I assume the game is using more because it is there to use (less asset swapping/garbage collection to do on chunk loads).
