Egg Farming Problems
So...im now level 62 on a valhalla server and now decided i need to start an egg farm (im playing PvE till i learn the whole game). I have tamed a bunch of dinos and they are all mated, mainly 1 male and 4 females. I have also set them to passive so they dont wander off and get eaten (ive built a base close to a swamp) however, i just can not get them to lay eggs ive sat and watched them ive wandered off then come back and still no eggs!

On my neighbours base all his animals have a flashing egg icon on each dino but mine dont, what am i doing wrong???

Any pointers are much appreciated.

i found out that it take ages for them to mate if you have 2 females on 1 male. They will constant switch partners it seems. Try grabbing more males to balance it out.

thanks man, ill give this a go and see how i get on. i read that having an oviraptor tamed nearby helps...not sure if thats true or not though

The flashing egg icon is the oviraptor buff - it is not required forlaying eggs, it only increases the odds of getting eggs.
Eggs are random, so depending on how long you've been waiting, it may just be bad luck.
If it's been a while, are you keeping them on solid ground, or on ceilings/foundations? I believe there's a common issue with eggs falling through structures.

They're not trying to breed, only to get regular eggs. One male can mateboost as many females as you can physically fit inside its range.

The flashing egg icon is from having an oviraptor on wonder near by, this increases the chance of eggs. No idea if you are actually doing anything wrong or just unlucky with the egg drop.

The flashing egg means he has tamed a Oviraptor and has it on Wander around his base to increase egg production. You do not need the Oviraptor to make your dinos lay eggs, but a higher female/male ratio works best. best Ive had in the past is 1 male to 9 females

No problem ! i also had the same idea that one male and several female would produce more eggs.

you need to tame a oviraptor then set to wonder

Just to get things straight:
Every female has a random chance of laying an egg instead of pooping every time it poops.
The female being mateboosted doubles the chance of an egg.
The oviraptor buff doubles the chance of an egg.

At the end of the day, random will still be random, with or without the available boosts, so a drought may simply be bad luck, not an error on your end.

I had the same problem, but i build a mating cage, put a male and female in, set it to wonder and presto, i got eggs to hatch and started reproducing them. didn't take to long, but as long as they wondered outside the cage. i got eggs, but nothing to reproduce into a baby, only worked in the mating cage for me anyway

Different issue, Usually an Egg Farm is for kibble making, not mating for fertilized eggs.

i have my dinos on ceilings with stone foundations beneath, i used ramps to ge them up then removed said ramps incase the eggs fell behind.

Also, don't forget to load the Ovi down with wood/stone/etc so it doesn't move because the server unloads walls when nobody is in that area of the map and Ovi's will pass right through walls. I had an ovi who i kept locked in my barn not only escape, but he managed to cross the open yard and i found him inside my metal house. lol.

As for eggs, it usually takes a bit of time before eggs start being laid. You wont get hardly any if you are sitting there idle. I get by far the most eggs when i'm building on my base crafting walls, ceilings, etc.

And lastly, the ovi buff stacks. So the more ovis the stronger the buff effect.

This whole "load em down with stones" advice is strange. Just put the ovis in a cage, we've not lost one out of a cage yet.
