Why are 50x servers so popular ?
I don't understand why 50x servers are so good ? What is the lure and why when I list most players in game unoffical they are mostly high rates.

My only thoughts are because its unofficial the servers can shut down anytime or be wiped so people are not as keen to risk spending a huge amount of time grinding to build something when it might be gone tommorow. Or is there another reason ?

Because it isn't as time consuming I don't mind waiting but having to wait hours when I don't have hours for something is when I want things to be sped up.

makes for better pvp too. not much risk for losing anything if you can get it all back fast, so its easier to have fun without people getting all pissed about it(they still do) lol
I play on a 3x gather, 5x tame server, with an experience point scale like a MMO, the 50x scale are for those people who want to grunt rush the PVP experience to the max. It's high energy, fast paced, and many like the adrenalin rush and exhileration they feel doing that.

I prefer a nice primitive, deadly, experience where the dino's are more a worry than the people because they are that realistically adjusted.

There are many unofficial servers with more sane stats that have been running for months. This was pointed out to you last night. A 50x server will only attract casual (read fps) /lazy players. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy. They're not there for the long haul so it's generally high churn with mostly drop-ins. Big count, low commit.

Alas, how about some facts. How many do you have on your server and what's it called?

two reasons: first is that after you have spent a few hundred hours building a decent base and then reset the server or something like that it just isn't fun to spend anouther few hundred hours doing it all over again so something like 50x makes it so you aren't regrinding everything you already had before you decided to play on a modded map or what ever.

2nd is that if you have higher gather rates people are more willing to actually do PvP because they know that worst case senario they have to spend a few days rebuilding before they can attack again. On defualt gathering rates people really only start PvPing against tribes they know are smaller and less developed for the most part because they are potetially risking hundreds of hours of work every time they piss someone off.

Just took a quick look. For every 50x server with a count above 10 there's 3 times that with 5-20 gather. Most of the 50x is rush PvP with high levels. ie: A totally different playstyle.

This

Sick of the grind, also sick of losing my server overnight. But still love this game after so many hours.

Only started on them recently but been having a damn good time. Its just E Z mode really, no point in arguing its anything other then that. I've done the big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ alpha tribe ♥♥♥♥, i just want to mess around build neat stuff and have fun now. Its also pretty nice not really caring if you get raided as much.

Personal preference. If you dont have as much time to devote to the game I can see the appeal. but personally I find even 8x a little too fast, at least where EXP and gathering is concerned... I can't even imagine 50x.

Most of them ive seen have increased level caps to coincide with the insane xp - like 500 levels for dinos and players. Its just a different game really

It's interesting because at the higher rates you can also build explosives at that high rate faster .

But if someone was building explosives on a 1x server for months and stored em all up , it would take the same time to destroy the tribes base as it would on a 50x server .

The difference is , 50x server base took 2 days to build while the 1x server base took 2 months to build . .... BUT same time to destroy .

Does farming time make skill ? Probably not . The skill would be in the clever design of ones base I guess?

Taming at 50x is pretty good , just tamed a 120 sarco in about 10 mins using prime at 100% taming efficiency . Of course 50x rate doesnt make finding level 120 dinos easier .

I find it insulting that you call people who play on 50x servers lazy because some of those guys might work 12 hrs a day and have a family so 50x might be perfect that they can play game and not log in to make 1 wall .

Might wanna think about this . Is it more sane to spend 500 hours doing something than can be done in 50 hours ?

Yup ^_^ I'd much rather design a cool base with clever defenses quicker even if it ment people could make explosives crazy fast. Becuase the way I play on these servers is still just having th classic 4x4 shack in the woods till I can emerge as a dominate in my own right. I havnt actually been wiped off a 50X server legitmatley using this tactic yet, only from servers either shutting down or me leaving due to the community fizzling out after a week. Found one now though thats been going strong for a few months, so we'll see if it will work against the more developed tribes or not I guess. :D

True , it is actually quite fun building . the downside is you run out of walls or materials you have to stop having fun building and go and find a tree to hit or stone to pick up . But I understand why they have that inorder to maintain some sort of resource balanced economy even tho technically resources are unlimited especially stones which magically appear on beach alot faster than stone nodes .

I guess if resources were ultra rare people could trade them but it seems time is the greatest resource in this game

I like unofficial servers but the x50 just seem to easy I want to actully work for things not have everything insta tame. I find that around 4x tame and 2x gather is a pretty good setting.
Diablerie Mar 30, 2016 @ 5:05pm
after playing most of my time on default settings, I have learned that i absolutely detest the taming system the way it is. It doesn't take skill to sit there staring at an unconscious animal and shove narcotics down it's gullet., 50x might be a bit much, 5 or even 10 x taming speed is nice, I usually leave the other values as is.
