No, my guess is you put one shot too many into it. Maybe lag, maybe just marginal that it went unconscious just before the last hit.

As far as i know if it takes damage after knockout not before, it will lose taming efficiency. Maybe you hit it a time or 2 after it went down by accident?

Could also be he was in a fight before you took him out? Failing that, as Boffin said.
clueless.... cant be certain but last time i punched a dino it lost 2 percent. this was down about 9. fight before hand possible but he spent the night and then some on my roof. Not calling anyone a liar im seeing mixed info on the before hand damage. i never seen this before not that i noticed anyway. 1 shot is possible could have nailed him as he was flopping but i dont think so. I doubt 1 shot is 9 percent. People talking of darts to reduce damage before hand. its never been an issue until this doed anyone wana argue the other side or we leave it at a hit after flop?

As far as I know, the darts to remove damage thing was mostly for argies for example, as they tended to die easily while tranqing.
I have never heard of or experienced damage before being knocked out affecting the taming process.

Damage before knock out does not impact TE. You can knock out a dino/animal with only 1 health left and it will tame with the same TE as a dino/animals with 1000 health left; all other things being equal.

TE is lowered by:

Eating for Tame(not force feed) - every byte will reduce TE a little, even if the game says TE is at 100%(that is just rounding).

Damage after knock out: A late shot, a punch, damage caused by another dino(including ones you are protecting it with) will have a huge impact on TE

Taming with the wrong kibble/food. If you give it the wrong kibble, this has the most negative impact on TE. After that least prefered food can impact TE because they need more of it and/or it just has a bigger negative TE impact; raw meat vs cooked prime vs raw prime vs kibble.

Also, if you do not keep food on the animal during tame, it will start to lose taming %, which means you will need more feedings to complete the tame; so that can also impact TE.
