Timed out non-dedicated server

Hi,

My friend and I enjoy playing Ark together, which means I host a non-dedicated server on my pc and he joins me. Sometimes he has no initial problems connecting to the server, but the issue always seems to pop up sooner or later.

When connecting he often gets the timed out/disconnect error. It sometimes gets fixed by me relaunching the 'server', after which he can join. However, he will always randomly disconnect at some point. On some days, this creates an unplayable situation, on other days, we are more lucky and can string a couple of hours together.

I know the issue is quite common and I have not yet found a permanent solution anywhere, but our problem is slightly different from what I usually see, as I am running a non-dedicated game.

Does anyone perhaps know a fix or at least a way of finding out where exactly the problem lies? We would be very grateful.

Not sure if the patch, due very soon, will alleviate non-dedicated connection timeouts. I'm assuming it will.

I have seen that as well, but the problem seems to be with mods in particular, so my hopes aren't too high.

OK, so if we take mods out of the equation it could be any number of things. Anything ftom ping to latency to poor bandwidth to slow server....

What are your connects like to other servers?
Whar speed/capacity is your system?
Have your tried dedicated (via ASM for example) if your system is good enough?

Let your friend lower the Client Network Bandwidth. It is in the Options-Screen from ARK and set to Epic. I use High, because of the timed out/disconnect error.

@ Quarks, we've tried that before, all the way down to low. Doesn't seem to make a difference.

No mods, same problem. Always works first time after making it, times out EVERY time after that. Had a (few) lucky moments, but 99/100 tries results in a long wait and failure.

Got the same problem on private server, but with mods. I get disconnections all the time and I get set back. Many times I have to open a door 3 time just to get trough...impossible to play like this leaving my base means death after 30 seconds...

Me and my friend have the same problem.We have no mods btw. Some days we play like 5 -6 hours straight with no problems but some days I disconnect every 30 min or so. When I automatically disconnect , I can't reconnect.I get timed out error.My friend restarts his modem and relaunches the server and I can join again easily until I time out again. I'd be glad if a solution is found.

I don't think we ever solved that issue, so we moved to an unofficial server. I really recommend doing that, just take some time to find one with good admins and a nice community. If you want to play with just the 2 of you, make a tribe together and don't accept donations etc. In that case it will still sort of feel like you are playing without other people, but you don't have all the technical issues to worry about.

I've got the same issue. It lets me play in my friends non dedicated server for a certain amount of hours then at random times it disconnects me and we have to restart the server just for me and my friends to be able to connect to the non dedicated server my friend is hosting. All of us have a good latency but we keep getting disconnected for no reason

OK so I got the same problem BUT it worked before i disconnected. Before that i could always join easily. But after the disconnect i had always timeouts over and over. It sometimes worked when my friend killed my body ingame, restarting the game and the server. But now i again disconnected and can't join and yes he tried killing my body etc. It didn't work. Ah and we play on an non-dedicated server.

same here after 6 years the problem still has not been found/fixed
