Problem with Metal Hatchframe
It seems the metal hatchframe will only accept a ladder in one location and the hatchframe is in the wrong orientation for me to add a ladder at the desired location.

I cant seem to rotate a new hatchframe to the desired orientation to be able add the ladder in the desired location.

With wood and stone I could place the ladder on any of the 4 locations on the hatchframe so the hatchframe orientation was not important although I did notice some of the hatch doors opened in an inconvenient way on some.

How can I add a ladder to a metal hatchframe where I wish or how can I rotate the orientation of the metal hatchframe so the ladder can be placed in the desired location?

Many Thanks.

I have the same issue, had to break my 2 month old design to work withnmetal lol. Sucks. If anyone has a solution I'm all ears

Thanks for your comment but to be honest this is really ♥♥♥♥. The game is now unplayable for me until I can resolve this issue.

Have you tried placing it from the top from different angles? When I was placing them it always seemed to want to go one way 99% of the time until I found the right angle

Thanks but unfortunately your suggestion is not a viable workaround. I spent about an hour trying to get it to go in a different orientation.

Why cant the E key and another key be available to change the snap point and location.
This would make building so much less frustrating...

The game is unplayable for me at the moment.

A little bit of an overreaction that the game is unplayable due to a metal hatchframe. You could just use stone on that tile for now?

How about fixing the poor build system? I desire a cure, not treating symptoms!

Might I suggest waiting until official release? If a simple hatch misalignment makes the game unplayable for you, I can't imagine your reaction to the numerous other bugs in the game.

also, I'm not having any issues with placing the hatch-frame or ladder in a usable position, just tested it.

What mods are you using that could be causing this issue?
Do you have any other structures in place that are interfering?
Have you tired 1st person 3rd person, and K to try different angles of placement?
Are you trying to place it while on a Dino?

Since I can't replicate your issue, no idea why it would not work for you unless you haven't tried every option or have a specific issue with your install. .. corrupted file??

Did you place the trap door? If you did break the door and just place the ladder first I recently just placed about 6-8 in my building though the ladder not always where I wanted it had no issues placing ladders. If you just don't like the placement it has to do with the alignment of the ceiling tiles next to it. With metal you can easily see from underneath how they line up this will dictate the rotation of the hatch frames.

If you want it to go the other direction you'll have to redo the ceiling tiles first.

Maybe try a hatch from another material first and then replace w/ metal?

You can't play the game anymore because a ladder won't snap the way you want it too, come on dude...... I hope you're trolling

The only workaround I've found: Use a wood/stone hatchframe underneath the top level metal hatchframe to get the ladder in the right orientation, you can then build it up to the right height.

Be aware though, that you can't remove the wooden/stone portion or the entire ladder will collapse, it's not actually anchored to the metal hatchframe.

And yeah, it does suck. So does having to put floors *under* large crop plots for Plant X turrets if you want to build it slightly underneath a platform saddle.

I am not running any mods.

The hatchframe does not have a foundation below. The design is for the ladder to hang in the air without touching the ground. A foundation to the side, 3 pillars up then a ceiling and the hatchframe is located to the side with the ladder going down. The foundation cannot be rotated because there are too many foundations and building to destroy.

I tried placing a stone hatchframe, placing a ladder then upgrading the hatchframe to metal. I could place the ladder in the desired location but when I placed the metal hatchframe the ladder was destoryed. So that workaround did not work sadly.

Sulvix, I'm not trolling, come on girl!

My belief of early access is that it will never be have a full release because that would take away the developers excuse of saying "Oh it's because it is early access", it is a con to sell and make money from half baked games.

If the build system is fixed in the next update or two then I will retract my words! Just need two key presses, one to traverse available snap points and the other to rotate the placeable object and it's a done job!

Not being able to place items as desired is killing the game for me.
