Minigun Turret Range
https://survivetheark.com/index.php?/forums/topic/51840-minigun-turret-range/

I feel that this needs to be addressed, for the time and effort people put into making the turrets, bullets, etc that goes into a Minigun turret, the range has to literally be point blank from all the tests we've run on tamed and wild dinos.

Originally posted by Inigo:
On Server 434 we were testing out a new Battle Quetzel Design, and we had heard mixed rumors about Minigun Turrets doing no damage to unmounted dinos, etc. and we were not sure if we should even bother, but we had also heard mixed rumors that there is a bug that sometimes prevents it from dealing damage at all, and other times it works fine.

We tested it out. We put 3 Minigun turrets on a quetzel, had a tribe member leave and claim a Gigantosaurus we had unclaimed, and we tested it at various ranges.

Long range Approximately 100 yards+, 0 damage. Tamed and Wild.

Medium Range, Approx 50- yards, 0 damage, sometimes we were able to hit the actual player and kill him, Tamed and Wild dinos took 0 damage.

Short Range, around 3-5 tile lengths from the actual turrets they would do 100% damage to a Dino, Tames or Wild.

So our problem is basically, mounted Minigun turrets on Towers, and Animals do not have any sufficient range to do any damage, a creature has to literally be point blank to take any damage. We had a tower setup too, couldnt hit turtles, trikes, pteradons anything on the ground or around the tower whatsoever. On our quetzel, if we got up point blank, we could kill anything. Unfortunately you have to be point blank. This makes Minigun turrets completely useless as a base defense item, even stationed behind your walls on towers looking over gates or anything where attackers may be coming from, you simply do not have any range to do any damage and will just waste bullets.

Quetzels, kinda semi-useful if you literally ram your target and unload your turret into them point blank, but that seems like a dangerous alternative to what the turret should be able to do range wise.

You see the bullets hitting creatures at long ranges, with blood splatter and everything they just don't take any damage unless you are up close and personal.

As far as I know, range doesn't affect damage at all, so why would you think bullets are wasted? I think the damage to range issue is just separate land/dino locations not synching up properly with the flying/moving platforms. I would expect further optimization, once the game is in that stage, will help to fix it.

Good to see you posted this in the official ARk Forums.

Bullets get wasted when you are shooting at a dino and it's taking no damage, flying or landed or from a tower, anything beyond 3-5 tiles distance takes no damage. So any bullet you shoot, is thereby wasted.

Still cannot get it to hit any dino mid to long range.

I'm having the same issue as well, the target has to be nearly ontop of you before it causes damage. I had thought it was a glitch or something, but it's on purpose?

As of right now, I'm googling for a way to increase their range on my private server...

I put in a support ticket, they gave me a standardized response, its early developement game, the issue is known and will be addressed in a future patch.

I can not say this is a fact however. On both official PvE 369 (use them to keep argents from my open bird pen) and the private server I play on, I have killed wild dinos while flying pretty far away with auto turrets. I have even sweeped the skys on the private server (PvP, a lot of people have birds get away from them, and we do a regular sweep).

At range my turrets have done a lot. No clue why it is happening to you.

He's talking about the minigun turret, not the auto turrets. I was helping Inigo test this the other day, trying to find the max distance before the minigun turret started giving damage ... and it felt like no more than 20 yards or so.

(The minigun turret is the big on you manually operate)

Its really powerful in Air-Air engagements with other quetz as a ramming weapon when you have a plant turret quetzal in support. Literally such a specific use for such a cool thing. If you want ranged dmg get the rocket turret.

I put a support ticket in, with a video, apperantly they already know about it according to their response.
