Dino clipping through wall question.
Heya!
I am just wondering if the dinos "clipping" through structures is something they have plans to fix in the future or is it intended and will always be like this? This is not a rant thread or even to give criticism, I am simply just wondering at this point.

I mean the dinos can just kill you inside your house without even needing to attack the walls first, it doesnt even matter if it is metal walls, half their body and head clips into your house and kills you and destroys your stuff. It's ok I can live with it if this is intended, I am just wondering if they plan to change it or not?

i think its going to be fixed, but as of right now its still not being worked on, that being said i am noticing some patterns with the clipping, or something that i noticed. If u have, say a trapdoor roof or a wall with a window or even a doorway, they seem to be able to clip through and attack u, however if the wall is a normal solid wall, even if they clip through they dont seem to do damage, and instead hit the wall.

Again, its just what i saw, i was in a tamming boat and noticed that alot of my boxes where destroyed when they where benath a trapdoor, but nothing else was when it was under a solid ceiling.

Ah I see, so there is no official statement from the devs about this or anything? Like if they have said, this is "Working as intended" or if they will be changing/fixing it?

Because right now what happens is, you farm and farm and finally you have a house with full metal walls and ceiling, and you are like "yeeeeey I finally made it" then suddenly you die. A Giganotosauros or Rex was passing by and it killed you while you were happy inside your metal house. Not sure what the point is of ever advancing to metal or even past wood. And now they are going to release the "Tek Tier" but what is the point, everything will just clip through the wall and eat you.

On a side note, just imagine how cool it would it be if the dinosaur actually had to get through your walls first before it could attack you. You suddenly see a big T-rex attacking your house, you pick up all your weapons and start fighting it, you are scared but you keep fighting on and then the T-rex finally dies but it managed to destroy a whole side of your wall. That would be so much more fun and interesting.

Right now you are building stuff at the smithy or something inside the house, suddenly it says "You died", like wtf.

This happens because to have a highly accurate collision box for the dino, it would create a large amount of rendering / processing issues when it's on screen. If you have a look in the dev kit, you can see the collision boxes, you can even change them and make a whole new mod of perfect collision dinos.... but it'll require some very high end gear to run it smoothly, and we all know lag when fighting dinos = death. :)

Unfortunately it's a sacrifice to make the game playable on mid - low end systems / consoles. Maybe in a couple years when systems are more powerful and some engine upgrades streamline it some more this will be corrected, but I wouldn't count on it any time soon.

More than anything I hope I'm not too far wrong haha. have a good one.

Yes you can see this if you turn on hit box markers get a Rex in a taming raft 2 walls high now from outside shoot it sometimes you will see the blood animation but if you don't see the red x you aren't really hitting him because you aren't hitting the hitbox
I was wondering why it was taking 100 narc shots instead of the 68 Dodorex said .

I build 3x3 with a fron and back door on opposing walls along the same wall. (In the corner. I then place containers as far from those as I can along solid walls. Then i build 2 walls high with a trapdoor in the middle along the same wall the downstairs doors are ajacent too. I then enclose that area in another story and ceiling it in. When I logoit I log upstairs away from the trapdoor.

It's Carno proof and Rex Resistant . Nwver die to dino's while logged.

Fun fact. Leaving a window door or hatch open triggers agression in carnos and they will poke their heads in and eat your Tribemate who was sleeping next to said window. Right in front of you. Very scary.

Indeed. I would gladly suicide a few low lvl rexes if that pokes a hole in a metal wall.
